I work as a qualified tourist guide of Ferrara since 1995, following my passion for the history, art and culture of my beautiful city. I love being a guide to share my passion about Ferrara with all the visitors that are interested in discovering an underrated jewel of Italy, listed as a World Heritage by the UNESCO for its stunning urban preservation and its ring of walls. The city is like an open-air museum, where it's pleasant just to walk around through the streets and places, with their magnificent monuments of the Middle Ages and Renaissance, be it the Cathedral, the Castle or the noble palaces, but every corner, every stone, has a story to tell you. Then you can discover also the "inner part", with the wonderful museums and churches, or more hidden gems, like the Romei House or the monasteries still used by the cloister nuns. I am specialised in many different subjects about the city as the Art (Schifanoia Palace, National Gallery at the Diamonds Palace), History (biographies of the Este family, especially the Ladies, like Lucretia Borgia or Isabella d'Este), Literature (Ludovico Ariosto, Torquato Tasso, Giorgio Bassani), Architecture (the development of the city, the Renaissance urban planning, walls and military buildings, leisure palaces of "delizia"), focusing also on specific themes like the Jewish history (Ghetto, Jewish Cemetery) or the great cinema in Ferrara ("The garden of the Finzi-Continis", Michelangelo Antonioni). I really like to customize the tours creating them on the interests and the requests of clients, "weaving" a tailor-made visit to make the most of the time we spend together. I speak fluent English and French, that I learned in the high school, a technical institute focused on foreign languages, improving my skills with continuous studying and the experience of many years of work. I attended the local University and graduated with the best marks in Modern Letters (Art History), with a thesis on the Renaissance Palace of Belriguardo and its cycle of frescoes in the Vineyard Room. I never stopped studying and I recently started publishing my researches about the local Renaissace (i.e. iconography of Lucretia Borgia, the tomb of Ercole I d'Este). As a guide, my services have been requested by several institutions, like the City and the Province of Ferrara, for special guests like journalists, writers, movie directors, tour operators, TV troupes, delegations from other European cities and VIP. I am used to work with foreigner tourists and very keen to provide cultural tours of high profile, but don't worry, my tours are always designed to meet your expectations, be it a more entertaining visit or a deeper "specialist cut". It will be a pleasure to share my knowledge and the beauty of Ferrara with you!

Overview of your Ferrara tour

Documented since the Middle Ages, the presence of the Jewish Community added a lot to the history of Ferrara, especially during the Renaissance enlightened government of the Este family, making of the city a major centre of Jewish culture. With the arrival of the Papacy started the age of the Ghetto, finally ended with the Unification of Italy. Then again the fascism and the racial laws, the Shoah... and the novels of Bassani, who retold the history through the lens of the great literature (and movies). The walk covers about 2 km, with many stops. Suggestions to customize: Using bicycles - very pleasant! (Ferrara is the city of bikes) Skipping the cemetery and adding the visit to the Bassani's Studies Centre (shorter walk) Renting a NCC for part of the tour No museums are included in this tour. Tell me about your needs and expectations, I will be happy to create a tailor-made tour for you!

Transport details
Type: Walking

The visit is conceived as a walking tour covering about 2 km with many stops. It can be very pleasant to tour by bicycle or, if you prefer to have the most relaxing visit, we can use a car for part of the itinerary - the Ghetto is to be done on foot, as it is in a pedestrian area. Tell me your needs, I can arrange to rent a bike or a NCC to let you have the best experience!

Meeting location

22 Via delle Vigne, Ferrara, Emilia-Romagna, 44121, Italy

Jewish Cemetery of Ferrara, Via delle Vigne, in front of the main gate. I am flexible on the meeting point, but given the opening hours of the cemetery, it's the best point where to start. The visit is conceived as a walking tour, but it can be easily done by bicycle, to cover better the distances. Also, if you arrive by car, it's possible to re-arrange and customize the tour.

  • You can request a different meeting location (for example, your hotel) during the checkout process.
