Hello, I'm Don. I was born and raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island and having worked in Tourism all of my adult life I have come to appreciate all the beauty my home Province has to offer and I always enjoy showing it off in each of my 5 to 7 hour private tours. I am also open to designing a "build your own tour" to highlight any of your special interests, ie, golf, harness racing, beaches, and lighthouses, etc. If time allows, I could do an even longer tour or a multi-day tour, the choice is yours. The early years of my career were spent in hotel management. I then moved on to tourism management, as the Executive Director of the Tourism Industry Association of PEI (TIAPEI). After 20 years with TIAPEI, I retired and began a most rewarding career as a local tour guide which allows me to showcase our Island to the many visitors that arrive on our shores . In 2010, I was privileged to be inducted into the Canadian Tourism Hall of Fame (only the second Islander to ever receive this distinction), also, in 2015, I was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Tourism Industry Association of Canada. I am very proud of our Island and for over 10 years I have guided hundreds of visitors from around the world and enjoy experiencing our Island through their eyes. Touring with me includes history, knowledge, seascapes, landscapes and lots of laughter. From its history as the Birthplace of Canada, its beautiful beaches, heritage buildings, fishing ports, and farming operations, PEI offers a very unique touring experience. We (two of us) had the most wonderful day out touring with Don who showed us all we wanted to see especially Park Corner and L. M. Montgomery birthplace in New London. Don was knowledgeable, friendly and a great guide who did the tour company and PEI proud with his desire to ensure that we had an enjoyable and great time. We never felt we were being rushed at any of the stops and were able to enjoy the sights, sites, and beauty of PEI in a leisurely manner. We will definitely return and will definitely book Don once again. Reviewed July 2019. 2. We had an excellent tour with our guide, Don. He was a wonderful tour guide. He took us to many interesting places and described everything so well. The van was comfortable for six average size adults. This tour is for the ultimate Anne fan but even if you are not a big fan, you will be delighted by the beauty of PEI as described in the Anne of Green Gables series of books written by Lucy Maude Montgomery. Our first stop will be at Silver Bush and the Anne of Green Gables Museum that is owned and operated by descendants of Lucy Maude. Silver Bush was the inspiration for 4 of her novels. Here you can view the floral gardens, the museum, and gift shop. Then it's on to French River for a photo stop at one of the most photographed spots on PEI. Our next destination is the Green Gables Heritage Site in Cavendish, this area was the inspiration for the village of Avonlea featured in many of the Lucy Maude novels. Here you can tour the main farm house that inspired the first Anne of Green Gables Novel, take a stroll down Lovers Lane and view the beautiful gardens. This is a tour Anne fans do not want to miss.
It was a lovely tour. Don was personable, knowledgeable and incredibly kind. He helped us to navigate family dynamics well and helped everyone from a 90 year old grandma to her grandkids have a wonderful time. He had great audio so we could all hear. He was flexible to our needs. It made PEI our favorite day of our cruise. Highly recommend him!
Don was a wealth of information about the Island. We were very lucky to have a local person, well versed in the information and history of Prince Edward Island. His manner was calm and gentle to be around, knowledgeable and kind. His car was comfortable. We would absolutely book Don again the next time we are in PEI!
Our Ultimate Anne tour with Don C was great! Highly recommended for any Anne fans. Don is knowledgeable about Anne and PEI. We were able to decide how long we wanted to spend at the Anne sites and still able to see fishing/lobster areas and a couple of beaches. We elected (our choice) more Anne so did not visit the Charlottetown sites on his list, but he provided info for us to visit independently. When he realized where our VRBO was located he offered to pick us up there and restructure a bit- a chance to customize his route to best fit our desires. We were a group of 4 with all of the same priorities. Don added fun touches and we learned so much from him! He uses a mic so it’s easy to hear him. He provides water and we were able to bring our own drinks/snacks so did not need to spend time on that (although there is an opportunity at Anne heritage site). Highly recommend Don!
Don did a fantastic job for our tour. We wanted to experience everything that had to with Anne of Green Gables. His tour started with a drive through downtown Charlottetown, accompanied by history. Then we drove to the Anne of Green Gables museum, Green Gables, Montgomery house, and birthplace. He gave history along the way, and allowed us to take as much time as we wanted everywhere. We were able to walk through the haunted forest, lovers lane, see the lake of shining waters, and buy souvenirs. We also went to Cavendish beach and an overlook, and saw bright yellow fields of flowers to made into canola oil. Don was great, I’d recommend his tour.
Enjoyed the tour with Don but the tour needs to be adjusted. He was very knowledgeable about the area but the tour could be considerably reduced. For example, it was a long ride to the main museum which was both interesting and informative. However, the tour to her home was not worth the long ride with not much to see. Then there was the long ride back to the ship!
Don did a great job. Very comfortable vehicle. Very knowledgeable about the town, surrounding areas, and about Anne. My wife, daughter and I enjoyed his tour Very much.
