Guide #45579
My name is Ana. I was born in Colonia del Sacramento and I' ve lived in this wonderful city all my life. I am very fortunate to have two jobs. During term time I teach History to secondary school students in Colonia and in the mornings, at the weekends and school holidays I work as a tour guide. I have been guiding tours in and around Colonia for over 16 years. I really enjoy both my jobs; they are similar in several ways. Working as a history teacher not only allows me to share my knowledge with my students but also learn from them. Working as a tour guide gives me a great deal of job satisfaction because it gives me the opportunity to meet people from different places, interact with them, get to know their culture and share experiences with them. I speak Spanish and English fluently and am passionate about sharing my local knowledge and customs with tourists from around the world. Although Colonia del Sacramento is only 1 hour 15 minutes in a ferry across the River Plate from the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, Argentina; it is like stepping back in time. It is a small, yet charming city located southwest of Uruguay. It is a very tranquil and stress-free place that has a population of approximately 26000 inhabitants. Due to its history the "Barrio Histórico" (historic centre) was designated a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on 6th December 1995. It is one of the oldest city in the country. "La Nova Colonia Do Sacramento" was founded in the last days of January in 1680, by the Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Manuel Lobo. A few months later, the spanish government settled in Buenos Aires, attacked this city and took possession of it. Due to "La Nova Colonia Do Sacramento" being a strategic point in the "Río de la Plata" (River Plate) it caused the dispute between the Spanish and Portuguese crowns for almost a century. Original cobblestone streets, thick stone walls and tile roofs are testimonies of its past. Visit, discover and experience this delightful city!!!! Licensed tour guide. History teacher. None

Ana was a superb guide. Knowledgeable and personable. She met us off the ferry from Buenos Aires and guided us through the history and architecture of Colonia del Sacramento. By profession she is a history teacher which meant she was open to any questions, no matter how odd, and she tested us (gently) with a few of her own. In advance we had indicated an interest in the...

A great day trip from Buenos Aires, this cute historic town was very walkable, and Ana provided an excellent tour. As a local, she had in-depth knowledge, and was able to get us a table at an in-demand top lunch spot. A wonderful day!

Ana was a delightful and very knowledgeable tour guide. We learned about the history and architecture in the old city. Then we took a ride up the coast to two family run wineries for a fantastic tastings and local meats and cheeses. Ana even arranged for a special cake as it was my husband’s birthday. It was so thoughtful and a wonderful memory!

We both want to say what a wonderful tour of Colonia Ana gave us. She has a wonderful and knowledgeable personality and made everything fun. We particularly enjoyed her flexibility and the background information she shared with us. Nothing was rushed, and the time passed very quickly as we were having fun (and learning).
