Hi! I have been giving tours of Washington for over ten years. I have no set script - just lots of good stories to share - and pictures. Washington is easy to love - the world's most powerful city is also one of the world's most beautiful - wide avenues, old neighborhoods, abundant gardens, tree-lined streets and wooded parks. I think George Washington would be very pleased to see what became of the place he chose to be the new Federal City. The story of Washington D. C. is also the story of the beginning of a new nation. Its very existence is linked to the efforts of people such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton. Today, its memorials and buildings are part of our American identity and remind us of the important moments in our common history. These are the stories that inspire me and these are the stories I want to share. I have lived in Washington for over twenty years and am passionate about the history and people of this great town. The best part of being a tour guide is getting to meet wonderful people from all over the country and the world. I love making tours interesting and fun for people of all ages. But I think it is also important that each tour be meaningful - that the stories I tell and the places we visit reveal something essential about Washington and in a larger sense, about the history of our country. I am licensed by the city of Washington, D.C. as a tour guide and provide narrated tours of the city and surrounding area. I ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Some notes about touring with children: I really love having kids on my tours, but they do present a few challenges. Here's some of my observations about touring with children: Pre-school and kindergarten - they cannot do the walking required. And they need to be bribed with lots of treats! 5th grade and below - they love the Lincoln Memorial, White House and Washington Monument. After that - it becomes very hard to keep their attention. 8th grade and below - 3 hours is about the limit. We need to stick to the highlights - Lincoln Memorial, White House, Washington Monument and perhaps the Capitol. High school - depends on the group. I have also noticed that kids respond differently when they are traveling with their friends vs. when they are traveling with their parents. When they are with their friends they are more outgoing and vocal and enjoy the attention from a tour guide. When they are with their parents they seem more withdrawn and not as expressive.

Overview of your Washington Dc tour

Hamilton never visited Washington - he was killed just two years after DC became the capital, but there wouldn't be a DC without him. Hamilton wanted to get his bank plan through. Madison wanted a southern capital. And over dinner at Jefferson's home, they agreed on a swap. Hamilton will get his bank, Madison would get a southern capital. We cover the famous and important sites in the city - Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, Washington Monument, White House and, time permitting, the U. S. Capitol. Alexander Hamilton, Marquis de Lafayette, Rochambeau, Eliza Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson and, of course, George Washington, all show up in one way or another in Washington DC. This is a tour by a fan of Hamilton for all Hamilton fans, present and future.

Your Washington Dc tour itinerary

The tour usually starts at the Lincoln and Vietnam and then we continue to the Washington Monument and pay respects to the efforts of Eliza Hamilton and her good friend Dolly Madison to create a memorial in honor of their mutual friend George Washington. From there we head to the White House and Lafayette Park. Here's where we can spend some time learning about the great Lafayette and Rochambeau and other European heroes of the American Revolution. For real die-hard Hamilton fans, this tour can be customized to include a stop at the National Archives to see the 1787 U. S. Constitution - the document that established the U. S. government. Please note: Timed tickets are required for entry to the National Archives and must be obtained in advance.

Transport details
Type: Walking

This tour is best accomplished on foot. Parking in the area of the White House and the National Mall is difficult and subject to ever-changing security restrictions. We will cover approximately 2.5 miles in a very leisurely pace. If you would like, we could use taxis or uber to cover longer distances and see more in the same amount of time.

What's included
Other: Tour guide services and as many references to the musical Hamilton as possible. I will sing along with anyone who knows the words to the songs but not loud enough to embarrass anyone.
