To understand Washington is to understand the stories of the people who built it, governed it, defended it, and struggled to make it a more perfect union. Those stories are not merely subjects I study—they are part of my own family's history. I am a Washingtonian, born and bred—and I mean that literally. My family's roots in this region stretch back eight generations, and our story is part of the documented history of George Washington's Mount Vernon. My family's story has been preserved in the archives of the Mount Vernon Ladies' Association and featured by the Mount Vernon Library, where I have shared my family's history in its Bound to the Land oral history program. As an eighth-generation descendant of the enslaved community at George Washington's Mount Vernon, I bring a deeply personal perspective to one of America's most significant historic sites—one grounded not only in historical research but in my own family's lived experience. My path to tour guiding began long before I received my license. Growing up in Washington, I was fascinated by the guides leading visitors through the nation's capital. Today I am a licensed Washington, DC tour guide with more than a decade of professional guiding experience. I specialize in private, customized tours that combine history, architecture, politics, art, and storytelling into an engaging and memorable experience. Rather than reciting dates and names, I strive to explain how places, people, and events connect to the larger American story. My guiding repertoire includes: • The National Mall monuments and memorials • The U.S. Capitol, Library of Congress, and Supreme Court • Mount Vernon and George Washington's Virginia • Arlington National Cemetery • The National Museum of African American History and Culture • The National Gallery of Art and Smithsonian museums • Historic neighborhoods and architectural walking tours • African American history in Washington • Customized full-day and multi-day tours throughout the Washington region Whether I am explaining the symbolism of the Library of Congress Great Hall, leading visitors through Capitol Hill, exploring the history of Mount Vernon, or introducing guests to Washington's extraordinary museums, my goal is always the same: to make history come alive through thoughtful interpretation, lively conversation, and compelling storytelling. I have guided families, couples, corporate travelers, diplomats, student groups, and visitors from around the world. Every tour is tailored to the interests and pace of my guests, whether they are first-time visitors or seasoned travelers seeking a deeper understanding of our nation's capital. The finest compliment I receive is that my guests leave not only having seen Washington, but having gained a deeper understanding of the people, ideas, and events that shaped it. Transportation can be arranged as part of your tour. I work with a professional driver to provide a comfortable, seamless experience, and I am happy to discuss the transportation option that best suits your itinerary and group size. I look forward to welcoming you to my hometown and sharing the city I have spent a lifetime exploring. Following a thirty-year career in law, I now devote my time to what has long been a passion—sharing the history of Washington as a Certified and Licensed Washington, DC tour guide.

Overview of your Washington Dc tour

Walking the grounds, you can imagine its historical evolution. Since 1789 when Pierre L'Enfant laid out a plan for the new federal city, the National Mall has been an integral part of his grand design. The two-mile tree-lined green space connecting the U. S. Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial has transformed from L'Enfant's original vision. In the early days, it was no more than an English garden bordering the capitol grounds expanding to the Washington Monument. The first monument's construction was stalled by the Civil War. The mall would be pivotal in the defense of the Capitol, the White House. There the Union Army established headquarters with Union troops were present on the Mall from 1860 to 1865. In 1902, Michigan Senator McMillian the vision it has become today. The Plan made several recommendations for improving the design and appearance of the grounds, and expanding into the swampy marshland, and subverting Tiber Creek underground. This tour is choked with fun facts and historical anecdotes.
