Walk the streets & back alleys and learn how murals, theatres, music venues, and memorials embrace the history of this amazing neighborhood. Along the way, we'll listen to a diverse playlist that will match up with the murals and venues. What to expect: a mix of historical perspective, exploring the urban environment, listening to music from DC's past and present, and observing the many murals from the neighborhood. This is a quintessential DC neighborhood walking tour. I have been researching this tour for 5 years. This time has allowed me to present the best sites to illustrate to you the powerful legacy of Duke Ellington, Pearl Bailey, Harriet Gibbs, Chuck Brown, and so many others. This is an express tour; the duration is 120 minutes. The tour ends about 8 blocks from where it begins. Total distanced walked is exactly 1 mile. Typically, I host groups sized 10 people or fewer.

An unforgettable walk through time recounting DC African American history, art, music, and the enormous sacrifice for freedom. All of this came to life while afoot in a historic neighborhood. The streets, buildings, murals, and melodies (provided by Timothy) told their tales of tragedy, toil, and triumph. A great tour which left us with an understanding of both the past and future of this vital neighborhood.

Timothy was exceedingly knowledgeable about the history of Black Broadway. He explained the rise and fall of this important area. His in depth discussion of the African American musicians who played in this area was very interesting. He covered many topics, including the key role banking and the insurance company started by Black people contributed to the ability of this area to flourish. I would highly recommend taking this tour.

I would definitely recommend booking Tim for a tour of Black Broadway ( UStreet). We took a group of middle schoolers from Jack and Jill on the tour. The children were exposed to important information about gentrification, protest and more. Tim had play list and additional visual aides (such as an original copy of newspaper on the days after MLK Jr. was assassinated.) The diverse aides really kept the kids attention.l, plus Tim was great with the young people, making the tour very interactive and fun
