Hi, I'm Ann M. , a native of Brooklyn and now a licensed New York City tour guide. Having spent my entire working career in the offices of Manhattan, there isn't a nook or cranny of NYC I'm not familiar with. So let me show you this amazing and fascinating town, especially via our wonderful subways, busses, ferries, and cable car! My mother came here from Scotland and my dad was a first generation New Yorker, born in Greenwich Village as a child of Irish immigrants who worked on the waterfront. Around the corner was the home of our scandalous Mayor Jimmy Walker. Our family then moved to the other great West Side neighborhood, Chelsea, now famous as the setting of the High Line. So how did we end up in Brooklyn? Simple: the apartments were cheaper! I was raised there in Park Slope, and my backyard was Prospect Park, the sibling of Manhattan's Central Park. Brooklyn in the '60s and '70s was a great place to grow up, with pizza, parks, street games, and the johnny pump (a. k. a. fire hydrant) to cool off in on a sweltering day. It was a beautiful time because my life was full of music from the radio and the records, most of which were produced in the offices and studios of nearby Manhattan. That love of music coincided with the beginning of my work life, where I was lucky enough to have a career in and around the music and entertainment businesses. I have composed several specialty tours for you based on these experiences. These tours will show you the venues, and tell you the inside stories, of your favorite musicians and the people who made them famous. Additionally, I can customize your New York experience to match your tastes and interests. So if you want to see Times Square, the Brooklyn Bridge, Rockefeller Center, Wall Street and the Stock Exchange, we can go there and then have pizza in Little Italy, or wonton soup in Chinatown, or pickles on the Lower East Side. It's up to you, it's your vacation! So email, we'll tawk! Dyker Heights has long been known for it's over the top Christmas decorations ! Street after street of extraordinarily decorated homes. A surprise on every block where the neighbors try to out do each other every year!! There will be neighbors selling Hot Chocolate and Donuts along with some of the best Christmas displays in America! It truly is magical and worth the trip!! I grew up here so I know this neighborhood very well!

Someone suggested my wife and I should do a Dyker Heights Christmas lights tour since we would be in the area visiting our daughter a few weeks before Christmas. This was by far the highlight of our trip! Ann was an amazing tour guide! She was very helpful prior to our arrival to the city and suggested a great meeting spot and a variety of ways to get there based on where we were staying. She was very patient as my daughter and her friends were running late and also liked to stop and take lots of pictures along the tour. Ann's knowledge of the area and the background stories behind the Christmas displays are what really made the tour special. We could have tried to do it ourselves and wander aimlessly around the neighborhood, but we likely would have missed some of the best displays and definitely would have missed the wealth of information that Ann provided. Highly recommended!
Ann was absolutely fabulous. She helped us navigate our way to meet her on the train. She was prompt and really made us feel comfortable. Super reliable and a great person who knows the history behind the houses and the lights. Highly recommend.
I will meet you at the corner of 86th Street and 4th Avenue in front of the Dime Savings Bank. You get there via the R train from Manhattan to 86th Street, Brooklyn. Come up the stairs on the right, it's across the street. We will then walk down the same street where John Travolta walked in Saturday Night Fever to the Christmas Wonderland at 86th Street and 10th Avenue. We'll walk up and down 85th, 84th and 83rd Street between 10th and 13th Avenues. You'll see Christmas decorations like you've never seen before! We end at 83rd and 12th Avenue and I'll walk you back to the train OR make recommendations for places to each Dyker Heights/Bay Ridge which has some of the BEST Italian in NYC!! I know, I used to live there!
