As the daughter of immigrants from the Netherlands, I grew up in a 100% Dutch home in an area of Northern Michigan with very few Dutch people. So, when I discovered Holland, Michigan, I felt I was finally home! I love Holland and I am energized to tell others about this vibrant town! And after living here for more than 35 years, I think I count as a local now. :) I have a passion for the hiSTORY (emphasis on "story") of this town, as well as its art and architecture. It is absolutely delightful to show my tour guests the hidden gems of Holland and help them understand the significance of each one. The natural beauty of Holland is outstanding as well, featuring the amazing Lake Michigan shoreline and our own Lake Macatawa. Oh, and let's not forget FOOD! I am a foodie and I feel that in order to fully experience a locality, guests must taste the local flavors as well. So, many of my tours include a food element (or two or more!). For leisure, I enjoy reading, biking, kayaking and napping (not simultaneously). I love to laugh and appreciate the opportunity to do so with my tour guests. I graduated from our local hometown college (Hope College) with a degree in Communications. I successfully completed the course to become a Certified Tourism Ambassador. I serve on the Ambassador Team for the local West Coast Chamber of Commerce. I have five years of experience as a Tour Guide. None.

Overview of your Holland tour
Come experience beautiful, historic downtown Holland, Michigan in a way unlike any other! During this 3 hour tour, you'll delight in unique Holland food, discover stories of the past and learn about its art and architecture. Even local guests have often remarked that the information shared in this tour was unknown to them despite years of living in the area. Your enthusiastic, knowledgeable guide has been actively collecting stories of Holland for years and loves to share them! A significant part of experiencing any local place is tasting its unique foods. This is why a variety of foods are included on this tour. We'll experience a total of SIX tastings and lots of fun stories! Among the tastings are authentic Dutch foods, as well as a variety of local Holland, Michigan foods with both savory and sweet offerings. On this tour, I'll tell you about the Dutch legacies of frugality, practicality and aesthetics and their impact on our town. The following itinerary could be customized upon request:
Your Holland tour itinerary
·Our tour will start with us meeting on the south side of the Holland Energy Park. ·Next, I'll provide you with introductions & information, for example, unveiling why the Dutch immigrants that started our town decided to leave their home country of the Netherlands. ·Approximately 15 mins into the tour, our 1st tasting will take place. This is a Dutch food from an iconic Holland restaurant. ·Then, about 45 minutes in, the 2nd tasting takes place under a gazebo. This is another Dutch food from a local bakery. ·Around an hour into the tour, our 3rd tasting will occur, consisting of a Holland classic at a selected restaurant. ·After around 1. 5 hours, we'll enter another restaurant for our 4th tasting. ·Not much longer than 15 minutes later, a beloved locally-famous item will be our 5th tasting. ·At the 2. 5 hour mark, our 6th and final tasting will take place in another local restaurant. ·As we walk, I'll share stories of Holland's history as well as insider information about its art and architecture.
