In graduate school, I decided I wanted to love what I do and do what I love. That's why I received a Master's in International Studies and concentration in Parks, Recreation and Tourism. I've lived my entire life in the South traveling through all the nooks and crannies of North Carolina from Murphy (mountains) to Manteo (coast). I love to share and show the beauty and culture of the Triangle, North Carolina and the Southern region. Gaining experience along the way managing group sales at a NC mountain ski lodge, teaching kayaking, nature camps and tours on the Outer Banks of NC and managing small and large nature events at the Raleigh Parks & Recreation, I took the next step to managing event planning in the hospitality industry. Waiting tables, bartending, hosting, planning industry events you name it, I've done it. I put my experience in the restaurant and hospitality industries and parlayed it into becoming a tour guide in all four Triangle cities. It was a natural fit. I'm excited to meet you and show you the best parts of the the Triangle. From business team building events, two hour or day outing to family reunions, I've lead thousands of people on all types of tours and adventures. Jacquelyn •Owner of local tour company since 2008. Durham is an exciting small southern city to explore. History, incredible food and drink, baseball along side Broadway & local theatres and let's not forget Durham blues music all taking place surrounded by old tobacco warehouses. During the late 1800s, in the Bull City, came the rise of the tobacco industry. As fast as it formed, it fell, but the years in between saw the creation of an empire. With roots in tobacco farming, we'll learn how the Duke family built this empire beside their competitors. Starting at the American Tobacco Campus with how Durham got established, we will explore historical event that took place in and near downtown that ended the civil war in the south and created this empire. Stop by Burt's Bee's cabin & visit the Durham Athletic Park & DPAC. We'll explore a few more old warehouses then go into an old bank vault & view some cool murals and the bull statue. We'll listen Durham blues music throughout the tour and talk about movies filmed in Durham.
This is a walking tour. Flat 1.5 mile surface. Included are bottle waters & snacks. There will be time for bathroom and coffee/drink break. Meet and Greet at American Tobacco Campus. Explore the warehouse architecture, learn about the tobacco empire and history of the American Tobacco Campus as well as Durham Bulls Stadium, tobacco warehouses, DPAC, the civil war in Durham and visit Burt's Bee's cabin. We will save a little time to visit a local shop or two- up to you. Head over the railroad tracks to visit Five Points, Black Wall Street and explore more of the history of Durham including viewing a few of the many amazing murals and the bull statue downtown. Visit to History Museum of Durham - day tours only. Tour times are flexible.
