Overview of your Exeter tour:

The Jurassic Coast that runs for 95 miles from Exmouth in Devon to Studland Bay in Dorset offers some of the most fascinating geology in the world, as well as being extraordinarily beautiful and diverse. Such is the importance of its geology, covering 185 million years of earth's history, that UNESCO granted it World Heritage status in 2001. This amazing tour explores some of the communities and beaches of this spectacular coastline. We start in Exmouth, at the beginning of the Jurassic Coast, then make our way along, pausing at several interesting and eye catching places, each with their own story to tell. You'll want to have your camera to hand constantly, and when we go fossil hunting you'll want to keep your eyes open! We do this on the beach at Charmouth, where we always manage to find something of note. Ammonites, belemnites and the fossils of other such ancient creatures can be found, and taken home with you too. Adults and children alike will delight in this truly wonderful day out.

Your Exeter tour itinerary

9. 00 am - collection from you accommodation We'll head to Exmouth to see the starting point of the Jurassic Coast, then make our way east from there, visiting Budleigh Salterton (to see the incredible pebble beach), East Budleigh (where Walter Raleigh, the famous explorer was born), Sidmouth (where we can see the magnificent red sandstone cliffs), and Branscombe (the longest village in England), where we'll have lunch at a cosy local inn. After lunch we'll head through the pretty village of Beer towards Charmouth, just over the border into the county of Dorset. Here we'll do some fossil hunting on the beach, as well as visiting the visitor centre to see its impressive exhibitions that highlight the immense history and geology of this area, showing off some of the incredible finds that have been discovered over the years on the beach. 5. 30pm - return to your accommodation Please note - the fossil hunting may take place in the morning as it does depend upon the tide times.
