We will explore the insides of old historic homes that will showcase the culture as it was and what the Emiratis have carried into the present day. We will discuss architecture, food, coffee, and more in the historic district that has been preserved, as if in a time capsule, to evoke a bygone era. Now hosting art galleries, cafes, museums, the bylanes of Al Fahidi district is the place to begin your journey. As we continue on foot, all of your senses will be activated by the surroundings. A ride across the creek on a small wooden abra (boat) is the quintessential Dubai experience, still used by commuters and residents. In the souks we will see old mosques, houses, artifacts, rich textiles, and spices. Learn how Frankincense, Saffron, and Myrrh, still capture the imagination of traders. Taste sweets that even Willy Wonka would marvel at. And finally, walk through the elaborate gold souk, a place that you didn't know existed and will never forget. A great time with Rick during ny 3 hour layover in Dubai. Rick and his driver picked me up on time from my hotel near the airport. We went around Old Dubai first, a very different version of Dubai than one expects. We walked through the historical neighborhood, making stops at the spice and gold souk and took a short abra ride. We then drove to Downtown Dubai and stopped to see the Burj Khalifa and fountains. Rick was accommodating and shared so many facts throughout. Highly recommend taking the tour.
