Hi! This is Khamis, and I know the most interesting places in the tropical island of Zanzibar, from extraordinary natural areas to historical remains from the ancient world that I crave to share with travellers from all over. Booking me, you can be sure to obtain a great quality service from a licensed tour operator, with no rush or hurry. Zanzibar's ravishing beaches and its historic Stone Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Zanzibar City, have utterly captivated me, and I can proudly say I have been guiding for 2 decades. I would love to contextualize you on the history of this archipelago, once a flourishing trading hub, which became a melting pot of African, Arab, Indian and European cultures. As we explore together, expect to see the vivid shades of every color imaginable, as well as the textures and vibrant energy of our seafront and our markets, with locals greeting you by saying “jambo” (hello) and “karibu” (welcome) every day. So get immersed in all that Zanzibar has to offer the right way; with a knowledgeable and polite guide that you can trust, who will focus on providing you with the kind of experience you wish to get, at your own pace.

On this cultural experience, you'll discover the one of a kind Swahili cuisine, which incorporates a variety of Zanzibar spices. Swahili gastronomy is a perfect blend of tradition & innovation, and it's sure to please even the most discerning palate. As someone who's been cooking these meals for over 20 years, I'll teach you how to prepare one or two of my favourite Swahili dishes, which you could then cook back home: •Boiled taro roots or banana mixed with coconut milk, spices, onions & tomatoes. •Pilaf (washed rice mixed with onion, cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, salt, beef or chicken previously cooked in oil). •Boiled pumpkin chopped in small pieces mixed with coconut milk, cardamom, sugar, cinnamon. •Washed rice cooked with coconut milk mixed with beans. You'll also get to interact with the locals at the outdoor food market where we'll get the fresh ingredients for our meals. But of course, the highlight of this tour is to seat together around my table enjoying what we cooked.
-After we've gathered, we will step inside my home, where I'll introduce you to my sister and my mother. -After we get acquainted, you're going to decide on one or two of 4 different Swahili dishes to collectively cook and have for lunch. -Once you've decided on what you'd like to learn to cook and savour, we'll make a trip to the local market to purchase the ingredients. -We'll walk 2 or 3 blocks together to get everything we need before returning home. -Once we're home with the necessary ingredients, I will deliver a culinary workshop, instructing you on how to properly prepare authentic Zanzibar-style cuisine. -We'll go to the step by step process together (washing, peeling, boiling, mixing, etc) to make the Swahili delicacies to enjoy. -At last, we will share the flavourful home-made meal we prepared, enjoying a pleasant conversation. -Finally, I will drop you off at your preferred location.
