The picturesque small town Marstrand was founded on a small rocky island, already in the 13th century. Marstrand has a dramatic history, as a "porto franco" (free port) and center for not only traders, but also smugglers. You will enjoy the scenic views of the Rocky archipelago, take a walk in Marstrand and see 17th Century Carlsten Fortress (surcharge for inside visit).

Marstrand is easy to reach, 47 km from Gothenburg, and 3 minutes ferry crossing to the main Marstrand island. At the top of the rock, rises the impressive 17th Century Carlsten Fortress. Enjoy the view of the sea and archipelago from the walls of the fortress. Please, note uphill walking. Take a walk through this idyllic town, with many old wooden houses and where car driving is forbidden! Then, we will go back to Gothenburg.
