When I decided to study political science and international relations, my dream was to be a diplomat and have a chance to learn about new cultures and work in foreign countries. In my sophomore year at the university, I travelled to Moscow to represent my country at an international student conference and it was my first trip to a foreign country. There I realized that travelling was my passion, not being a diplomat. However I graduated and began to work in a travel company in Istanbul where I had the opportunity to travel all around the world. Before residing in Norway, I had worked as a tour leader and a guide in many countries. I come to know and meet many people from different cultures and nationalities which contributed me to have a broader sense of the world and gain precious experience. I work as an authorized tour guide in our unique city of Ålesund and in the surroundings which always rank high in Norway's top-ten-must-see lists. I love to tell about the history, art, architecture, stories and general facts about the city and the country which I love to live in. I have BA degree in political science and international relations. I had worked as a tour leader for many groups in more than 40 countries before I resided in Norway. I have completed the official tour guide course by Ålesund Guide Association and have been working as a licensed tour guide in English and Turkish languages. NONE

It was the night of 23rd January 1904 when the catastrophic city fire broke out and destroyed the center of Ålesund. After the fire, a new city rose, phoenix-like literally from the ashes, in the architectural style of Art Nouveau, or Jugendstil as called in Ålesund. Ålesund is very different from other Norwegian towns regarding its distinguishing architectural style of Art Nouveau. The best way to enjoy this beautiful city is to stroll through its streets on foot with heads up because you will not want to miss any single detail of the Art Nouveau style ornamented and decorated buildings. The ravishing facades of the buildings on the walking street of Kongensgate, the amazing view of the Saga islands, the interesting stories of the city fire, the picturesque sound, the cobblestone streets, and other small surprises will make your day in the city.
Tayfun was a fount of information about Alesund and the region; and he especially added to our appreciation of the town's history after the fire by pointing out the different architectural styles of the rebuilt areas. His energy and enthusiasm were infectious and added greatly to our enjoyment of our walking tour with him!
Tayfun was at the port super on time. After that he took us walking through beautiful Alesund for two ours and was very beautiful, interesting and enriching. He wanted to walk more and was very enthusiastic, but we were a little hungry and tired and decided to go to a local restaurant he suggested and it was wonderful. Great guide. Tayfun was a superior guide in Alesund. He was knowledgeable and FUN. He was sensitive to my use of a cane and accommodated both couples well. He explained the history of Alesund and Norway and selected historic sites and included photo experiences. He was very good at describing the Art Nouveau buildings and the subtle changes in the architecture. He took us to the walking street and along the canal giving us great views of city/harbor. The heated bench at the end was treat. Highly recommended
