Dunedin City Sights and Penguin Viewing - Heritage Van Tour

As a historian, tour guide and story teller, I'm excited to show you Dunedin and share my passion for history and interesting stories. The everyday people who made up the city before us fascinate me, their lived experiences have shaped the city to be what it is. With this in mind, I've developed a very special tour to let you tick off your bucket list items (the world's steepest street) but accompanied by the commentary I've spent time researching and crafting that even earned me the cover of the New Zealand Heritage Magazine. Your 1.5 hour Wildlife and Penguin tour offers the most exclusive opportunity to view a variety of wildlife within their private eco-reserve. The reserve is home to New Zealand fur seals, sea lions, hoiho (yellow-eyed penguins), kororā (little penguins), forest birds, seabirds, and much more while contributing to conservation. Have lunch at the Albatross Colony then head back to town via the inlets (if time allows) for more bird spotting before the city sights.

Get picked up from your cruise ship or hotel ready for your Wildlife and Penguin tour at 11.30am. Tour includes walking through reserve areas and uneven ground covering about 2km or 1.2 miles. Have lunch at approximately 1.15pm at the Albatross Colony café then, if time allows, head back into town via the inlets to see the wading birds. If your schedule is tight, time may be shaved off the City Sights portion if you want to see more of the inlets. City Sights - see the University buildings, Baldwin St, Railway Station, the notorious Devil's Half Acre, Otago Boys High School and other Victorian era architecture Dunedin is known for.
