Dunedin City Sights and Larnach Castle - Heritage Van Tour

As a historian, tour guide and story teller, I'm excited to show you Dunedin and share my passion for history and interesting stories. The everyday people who made up the city before us fascinate me, their lived experiences have shaped the city to be what it is. With this in mind, I've developed a very special tour to let you tick off your bucket list items (the world's steepest street!) but accompanied with the commentary I've spent time researching and crafting that even earned me the cover of the New Zealand Heritage Magazine. After sight seeing, you'll have lunch at Luna Bar and Restaurant with a stunning view over the city then head off to Larnach Castle where you'll be taken room by room to see curios while I tell you the tragic Larnach family history. This tour gives Dunedin context, the pride, the fall, the growth - how the future intended for the settlers was not how it ended up being.

After pick up: University of Otago - Drive through and experience the grandeur of New Zealand's first university. Northern Cemetery - See the Larnach family tomb, learn how and why they're there and see other notable graves and their stories. Baldwin Street - The steepest street in the world. Climb it or just look at it, up to you! Dunedin Railway Station - The second most photographed building in the Southern Hemisphere for a good reason. High Street and Dunedin's "Devil's Half Acre" - High Street is where professionals built their consulting rooms - the houses are still quite beautiful and interesting to see but then leads into the "Devil's Half Acre. An area of town that was infamous for it's mischief and tragedy. Luna Restaurant - A little off the typical tourist path, a quiet place for lunch yet the spectacular view is anything but. Larnach Castle - A guided tour through the home of William Larnach and his family before they met their tragic end then be taken back to your ship or accommodation.
