Hi! I am Gaby Yaz and I come from "the land of chocolate" in Chiapas, located in the farthest corner of Mexico. I am a Historian and a Tour Guide. I worked as a teacher for a few years at different levels both in rural and urban settings. I love academia but I also love the outdoors, and I realized that becoming a Tour Guide I could combine traveling and sharing my knowledge about History and Archaeology, as well as connect to nature and with people from all over the world. Chiapas has a remarkably interesting history linked to its location and natural resources. I will be glad to show this land, which I love, so you can have a better understanding and enjoyment of local culture and traditions. I will also be glad to take you to authentic destinations where you can appreciate all the beauty that this land has to offer: amazing natural wonders, parks, protected areas and natural reserves, colonial cities and buildings, local museums and cuisine. When possible, I will take you to little-known indigenous communities, local cooperatives, gastronomic and artisan workshops to contribute to local economy and tourist culture and promote a tourism that benefits all. Of course, these tourist destinations, will be adapted to today's needs and in tune with the necessary security measures for both you and host communities. For me, Chiapas is one of those places that stimulates our senses naturally. It has the scent of raindrops on dry earth, of pine needles getting dry on the ground, of copal incense and candles. Everywhere you look you will find something that catches your eye: a colourful building, a beautiful piece of traditional fabric, a curious handicraft, or a multi-coloured dish. This is the place where the breath of wind that exhales from caves, the waterfalls' endless energy, and the strong wingbeat of hummingbirds and thousands of other tropical birds will make you feel alive. It would be my genuine pleasure help you having unique experiences and get the best out of your stay in Mexico. - BA degree in History. I invite you to experience two of Chiapas’ greatest treasures in one unforgettable day: the majestic Sumidero Canyon and the historic city of Chiapa de Corzo. I’ll take you to the canyon’s breathtaking viewpoints and, when desired, onto its river by boat to discover its towering cliffs, tropical forests, and abundant wildlife from within. As a protected natural area and RAMSAR site, the canyon is not only a geological wonder but also a place surrounded by fascinating local legends and stories that I’ll help you uncover. We’ll then head to Chiapa de Corzo, a Magical Town and Historic Monuments Zone, where I’ll introduce you to its history, traditions, local cuisine, and remarkable lacquer craftsmanship. We’ll share a traditional meal, explore the historic center, and, if you wish, get creative in an optional hands-on lacquer painting workshop. We’ll end our day immersed in the joyful sounds of live marimba—the music that gives this city its soul.
- The journey begins at Sumidero Canyon National Park, visiting three of its five viewpoints to admire the impressive depth of this geological wonder from above. Along the way, there may be opportunities to spot wildlife, from tropical birds to white-tailed deer. - The experience continues at the docks in Chiapa de Corzo with a boat journey through the canyon. From the river, towering limestone formations reveal a unique perspective, along with seasonal waterfalls and abundant wildlife. - The day continues in the historic center of Chiapa de Corzo, discovering landmarks, monuments, and of course local food! - After the walking tour, there is an optional hands-on lacquer painting workshop to discover this traditional local art. - The day comes to a joyful close with a live marimba performance, celebrating one of Chiapas’ most beloved musical traditions.
