Do you know where the famous Mt. Fuji is in Japan? Geographically Mt. Fuji is just located on the border between Shizuoka and Yamanashi. Southern part belongs in Shizuoka and Northern part in Yamanashi. Interestingly the feature of Mt. Fuji is completely different as for view and attractions from two states. From Shizuoka, sunlight shines on the hillside of the mountain all the year. We can see its brightly iconic spectacles combined with the ocean, tea plantation or a bullet train. Whereas, from Yamanashi, snow covers on the top half of the mountain in winter and remains until early summer. Gorgeous natural beauty with Fuji Five Lakes and Aokigahara Sea of Trees. Why did I mention such a story? Honestly I was born in Shizuoka and now live in Yamanashi! That proves I know all about Mt. Fuji and its surrounding area. Shimizu, located just center between Tokyo and Osaka, has been developed as a port town since 1800's. It started to export green tea and tangerine oranges to the world, but now deals machinery for automobile and industrial parts mainly. Also the largest amount of landing tuna in Japan. Shimizu port has been admired as one of the three beautiful ports in Japan along with Kobe and Nagasaki, for its scenery and mild climate. The view of Mt. Fuji with the ocean and tea plantation is breathtaking, which symbolizes Japanese beauty. Even in winter, there is no snow and oranges of the trees are glittered by warm sunshine. I used to live in Shimizu for years and know A to Z, from major tourist sights to secret local ones. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of Shimizu with Moto. His suggestion that we visit a tea house to experience a traditional tea ceremony was fantastic - we enjoyed it much more than we thought we would. We also visited a Shinto shrine had a fabulous tempura lunch at a location he had reserved for us. The highlight was a beautiful drive up a hill to a place where Mt Fuji was (mostly) visible. I highly recommend Moto as a guide, he was a joy to talk to and learn about Japanese culture.
Motoyuki was wonderful as a guide. He met us promptly at the cruise port and even though it rained he brought us to some really great places to view My Fuji. We expected a private tour but it went beyond our expectations- the lake view was tranquil and beautiful, an amazing short hike to the waterfalls with different views of Mt Fuji, a tea farm, Mt Fuji history museum (beautiful architectural design), saki tasting, ice cream stop, and a delicious sushi lunch. Moto was very personable and taught us many things about the local history. He made this stop one of our favorites!
Wonderful tour with Motoyuki. We had only a few hours as a cruise stop in Shimizu. He was waiting for us at the port, arranged a taxi transportation for the day ( which we requested him to help us arranging it) he showed us the most important and beautiful places in Shimizu. He even took us to a local restaurant where we had a wonderful lunch. We will recommend his services as a tour guide to everyone we know that is traveling to Shimizu to see Mt Fuji.
We had an excellent trip with Moto. He was very friendly and easy to talk to as well as being very informative. There were some many wonderful highlights to choose from our day; seeing Mount Fuji on a beautiful clear day, a private tea ceremony in a traditional tea house which for me was my favourite but the traditional Japanese lunch in a non tourist restaurant was 5*. He went above and beyond to make our day perfect. Thank you so much Moto.
Moto was one of the best guides we've had on vacation. He was knowledgeable and so friendly. We enjoyed all his stories and attention to detail. The weather didn't cooperate with our original itinerary and he was quick to offer alternate options that would interest our family of 2 teenagers and 2 adults. We were able to experience a private tea ceremony experience which proved to be the best tea ceremony we experienced in our 12 days of visiting Japan. Thank you, Moto, for creating a truly unforgettable experience for our family.
Moto was great. He made sure to include one of his favorite local restaurants for lunch. We saw the impressive shrine, did the ropeway, visited a tea factory and its farm and looked for views of Mt Fuji. He rented a nice car for the day $40 USD cost to us, which was a great way to get around. It was a perfect day, except for the clouds blocking Mt Fuji, but we saw it great from our cruise ship. Highly recommend Moto. He's a nice guy and provide explanations and translations as well. Thank you, Moto.
