Hello! My name is Josh, and I’m a Californian living in Itoshima, Japan. I’ve lived in Asia since 2007, including twelve years in Shanghai, China, and more recently, in Japan. My main job is photography of all kinds: school photos in Asia, the Middle East, and the U.S., lifestyle and travel photos all over Kyushu, Japan, surprise proposal and family shoots in Fukuoka, and occasional events. When I’m not shooting, I work as a tour guide, both as a private guide around Kyushu and assisting large groups of travelers on chartered buses. I mainly work with kids and young adults, but older travelers have also used my services. I absolutely love showing people around Japan. Introducing people to the gorgeous natural scenery, providing helpful tips on blending into Japanese society while they’re here, sharing a little history, and explaining the significance of each place we visit are all aspects I love about my job. Come explore Kyushu with me and perhaps I’ll bring my camera and take some amazing shots for you!

Overview of your Sasebo tour

The glass sand beach is a hidden gem not many are aware of in nearby Nagasaki. This is one of my favorite beaches in Japan because of its unique glass sand making for incredible photos and videos! The nearby green tea plantations are centered on rolling hills with sea views. Explore the farm roads up and down the hills and stop to take some gorgeous snapshots! Being a professional photographer, I’ll gladly bring along my personal camera for lasting memories. At the bottom of the tea plantations are a few tea houses, cafes, and other shops offering bites to eat and souvenirs from your trip!

Your Sasebo tour itinerary

Depart Miura International Terminal or another nearby port or train station via my private vehicle (up to four guests) or take Uber/taxi if the group is larger. - Drive about an hour to the glass beach - Explore the powdered glass beach for as long as you like. I’d recommend 30- 45 minutes. - Stop by Burger Joe for a famous “Sasebo burger” if interested. A 4.9 rating on Google Maps but only open from 11:00 - 14:00. A 20 min drive from the glass beach. - Drive back toward Sasebo city and stop at the Akagi Tea Plantation for an exploration of the green tea bushes. It’s about a ten minute drive from Burger Joe or 30 minutes from glass beach. I’d recommend 30 - 45 minutes walking, exploring, and taking photos. - Drive back down the hill to a local tea store to purchase loose leaf green tea or matches. Or stop by a cafe of your choice to taste some matcha, a latte, or snack! - Head back to the port (about a 45 minute car ride).
