The island of Vulcano from the top of its smoking crater - half day shore excursion from Lipari

The archipelago of Aeolian Islands is called like that because of Aeolus, Greek God of the wind and air who was supposed to live here. The island of Vulcano is one of the seven islands belonging to this group and the name itself "Vulcano", throughout centuries, was used to mention all those mountains in the world erupting lava and gases. In ancient mythology the island of Vulcano was considered Hephaestus' forge, being Hephaestus the god of fire and metalworking who, in Roman times, was replaced by God Vulcan. We'll set off from Lipari to trek the crater of Vulcano island. Once in Vulcano we'll be surprised by the acrid smell of sulphur which fills the air: a phenomenon due to the fumaroles that remind us the volcano is still active! We'll see fumaroles from cracks in the ground as soon as we arrive in Vulcano. Our experience continues with a trekking along the slopes of the crater and eventually, from the top, the view of the surrounding archipelago is gorgeous. Join me in such a particular experience!

- The tour starts from Lipari's main port (or from Milazzo if you are located there). We'll reach Vulcano via public transportation (hydrofoil/ferry). - At arrival we'll see the famous sulphur baths of Vulcano island, a mix of salt water, clay mud and sulphurous content having an enormous therapeutic value in the treatment of various diseases. - Then we'll start our hike to the top of the crater "Gran Cratere della Fossa" (391 mt above sea level). The path is both sandy and firm, uneven in places. - We'll stop sometimes along the way to take a breath and some pictures as well. Once on top we'll see the genuine Earth's breath and also enjoy sulphur crystals' shapes. - We'll finish eventually with a swim that gives you the opportunity to enter the thermal waters from which a sulphurous steam rises. * Feel free to contact me for further information.
