Having lived and worked all my life in Ireland my favourite thing in life is to show visitors what this wonderful country has to offer. I am based in the northwest of the country in an area called Donegal. I travel extensively throughout the country. I conduct a mixture of one day tours and multi-day tours. I am a qualified Tour Guide and registered with the Association of Tour Guides in Ireland and also approved by the Irish Tourist Board. I provide transport for your tour in a modern and clean, fully licensed mini-bus and I am also licensed with the Irish Taxi Regulator. I am a retired Police Officer, having spent 30 years in the Irish Police (An Garda Siochana), therefore I have the experience and the knowledge to help make your visit a memorable one and at the same time give you that extra secure feeling. My day tours are based in the Northwest and North of Ireland, while my multi-day tours take in the whole Island of Ireland. When visiting Ireland, if you include the Northwest and North of Ireland, you will experience a portion of Ireland which as unspoilt. You will get close to the more recent history of Ireland and experience a much wider version of Irish history than you will in some other locations. History in the North and Northwest can be brought to life by people with real life experience. Your sightseeing tour brings you through the heart of Donegal where you witness a dramatic change in the Farm land quality. Our first stop will be at the ancient Fort of Án Grianan Aileach from Pre-Christianity then its northwards into the Inishowen Peninsula of North Donegal. Stops will include the Military Fort at Dunree, The scenic Glenevin Waterfall at Clonmany, the magic road at Mammore Gap and the most northerly point in Ireland at Malin Head. On this Tour, I will share with you the more recent history of Ireland and ''The Troubles'' of the 1970', '80's & '90's. Having lived my life in this area I look forwarded to showing you how our life in Donegal was affected by our proximity to Northern Ireland. John was extremely pro-active especially when the ship had to divert to a different port due to sea conditions. He actually found out about it before the passengers were informed and arrived at the new location before the ship. His day tour was very informative and covered a wide variety of information and facts exactly what we were looking for. An outstanding guide who showed us his country "off the beaten path."
John gave us a fantastic private tour of Malin Head, Derry and the surrounding area on June 29. John was very knowledgeable in both the history and geography of the areas we toured. He was always able to answer our questions. Also, John was very prompt and kept us on time which was great. John is a great driver, very courteous and friendly and my family and I always felt safe with John. I highly recommend John!
We hired John for a full day tour of Donegal including Derry, Malin Beg, and the forts of An Grainan and Dunree. He was providing us with historical info and stories the entire way which made each site that much more interesting. And I think the most valuable part was that he was able to answer any and all questions about the area so we were much better informed about places we were going to visit after our tour. Because of this, I would recommend booking John early in your tour of Donegal..thank you!
John was a great tour guide - we spent all day exploring the Donegal peninsula and Derry in Northern Ireland. He was funny, informative and very personable. We had a great tour and really learned a lot about the history of the area. I would highly recommend this tour.
-Pick-up at the agreed location. -The first stop (Approx. 1 hour & 15 minutes), will be at An Grainan na nAileach Fort overlooking Donegal to the North, South & West, while looking east you will be looking across Northern Ireland to Derry/Londonderry City. -Then its onto the Military Fort & Museum at Dunree. -A coffee opportunity is available here. -Then we travel via Maammore Gap northwards to the most northerly point in Ireland at Malin Head. -The tour will also include lots of stories, history, folklore and Photo stops along the way.
