John M, from Donegal, Ireland. Fáilte go dti Dun na nGall agus go dti Eireánn - Welcome to Donegal and to Ireland. Having lived and worked all my life in Ireland my favourite thing in life is to show visitors what this wonderful country has to offer. I am based in the northwest of the country in an area called Donegal. I travel extensively throughout the country. I conduct a mixture of one day tours and multi-day tours. I am a qualified Tour Guide and registered with the Association of Tour Guides in Ireland and also approved by the Irish Tourist Board. I provide transport for your tour in a modern and clean, fully licensed mini-bus and I am also licensed with the Irish Taxi Regulator. I am a retired Police Officer, having spent 30 years in the Irish Police (An Garda Siochana), therefore I have the experience and the knowledge to help make your visit a memorable one and at the same time give you that extra secure feeling. My day tours are based in the Northwest and North of Ireland, while my multi-day tours take in the whole Island of Ireland. When visiting Ireland, if you include the Northwest and North of Ireland, you will experience a portion of Ireland which as unspoilt. You will get close to the more recent history of Ireland and experience a much wider version of Irish history than you will in some other locations. History in the North and Northwest can be brought to life by people with real life experience. Approved Tour Guide with the Irish Tourist Board (Failte Ireland), Licensed Public Service Vehicle Driver by the Irish Taxi Regulator. Qualified Mountain Leader with the Irish Mountaineering Council (B.O.S) Vehicle is licensed by the Transport Authority of Ireland. Retired Police Officer (30 years experience with the Irish Police - An Garda Siochana) NA

Overview of your Donegal tour

Your sightseeing tour brings you along a section the Wild Atlantic Way in South Donegal, Ireland to enjoy the rugged Coastline and unspoilt countryside. Stop at Killybegs, (Ireland's Premier Fishing Port), Visit Slieve League (said to be the highest accessible Sea Cliffs in Europe & to me it is the most beautiful location in all of Ireland), Visit the Irish Speaking Community at Glencolmcille and see the 18-foot-high Stone May of Ireland. Experience the Country Kitchen and wool shop at the Glencolmcille Folk Village and see traditional Irish thatches cottages representing the 1700's, 1800's & 1900's. Then visit the beautiful Silver Strand Beach at Malinbeg with its 170 steps. And then return to your accommodation or Ship. I will also enlighten you on the History and Folklore of this remote area. A visit to this area will allow you to enjoy the Irish countryside while finding out about how people live in this beautiful corner of Ireland.

Sliabh Liag cliffs and South Donegal have stunning vistas; the land is just beautiful. We also visited some incredibly talented crafters with lovely wares. If I could give more than 5 stars for John and this tour, I would. Touring with John is like touring with a friend; an opportunity not to be missed. His knowledge and love of the land comes through in all his stories, descriptions, and conversation. He provides for a full day of tailored stops, but never rushes, allowing for your own pace to enjoy. He was a great guide, patient, funny, kind, and easy-going.

Looking for a GREAT, professional guide with extensive knowledge, kind mannerism, and a great sense of humor? Then John is your guy. We spent a great day with him. We learned a lot about cultures, history, traditions, politics, etc. John answered all our questions, allowed us time to take LOTS of photos and we shared many laughs together. John's calm mannerism, great knowledge, and "grand" sense of humor were just what we were looking for! Thank you, John, for the great memories!

John was a fantastic guide! His knowledge of the history, people, and area are second to none. He showed us places and things we could not have experienced from any other tour. I would recommend John for any tour that he offers. An unbelievable experience.

We had a wonderful tour with John McGroary out of the port of Killybegs. Our group had a full day of great history, experience, scenery, and expert guidance. John is a great storyteller, he takes wonderful care of everyone in the group, and makes choices based on moment-to-moment tracking of the weather, to make sure we have the best views and experience. Top marks! Would love to return and do another tour of Donegal.

What a great day we had with John - He picked us up at 9 from our hotel and drove us around the Donegal coast for about 6 hours. He shared his knowledge of the area, his experience growing up there and as a policeman in the area. Plenty of great stops and BEAUTIFUL landscapes - even taking us out onto the bog to demonstrate the "bog bounce". Just having him driving us was worth the tour. These roads are not for the faint of heart! Overall one of the best days we had in our 2-week trip to Ireland!
