Hi, I am Suresh, I have been working as a tour guide for ten years. I am specialized in the Backwater tour, village tour, and cultural tours also. I am also part of the Responsible Tourism project in Kerala, so I also work acommunity tour leader to show different village activities to support and to get economical benefits to the basic level village people through tourism and to respect their way of life. Our Village is called Vaikom is 32 kms towards the south of Cochin. The canal backwater cruise, village life experience, khadi weaving unit visit, temple visit, etc. . . . are the attractions of our vaikom village tour. We provide traditional Kerala Vegetarian lunch on Banana leaf as part of our tour. My village VAIKOM is in fact on the oldest townships in Kerala and has many beautiful and must-visit spots which are still untouched by modernity. This attractive township on the southers side of Cochin is bounded by the enchanting Vembanad Lake. The centre of attraction of Vaikom is the ancient Shiva Temple. This Shiva temple is one of the divine places in Kerala. The splendid architecture of Vaikom Shiva temple allures a lot of visitors with its divine charm. The traditional economy has been based on coconut, rice crops, and fishing, more recently spices crops like pepper, nut mug, etc. . have been introduced. Tourism and traditional industries are also pursued as means to livelihood. Cor making and mat weaving are the traditional days to day activities of the locals here. Apart from toddy tapping fishing are the main earnings for living. Vaikom is a vast network of rivers and canals which merge into the great expanse of Vembanad Lake. In this water world, you will come across plenty of traditional country crafts, boats, and canoes that will take you into the heart of the scenic lake. The amazing backwaters on the way to Cochin from Vaikom have a unique ecosystem that attracts tourists from all over the world. Backwaters of Vaikos have a perfect blend of splendid scenic attractions and tranquility that help visitors to relax, unwind. Tourists can enjoy a plethora of amazing visual ecstasy here. Non-mechanized canoes are available in the villages to enjoy the beauty of backwaters. Sand mining, shell mining, toddy tapping, and fishing are the traditional occupations of villages. Tourist can enjoy backwater cruise, walk around the banana plantations and enjoy the greenary of this pristine villages. Vaikom village facing Vembanad Lake offers the best accommodation facilities. They also offer holiday packages that include houseboat cruises, ayurvedic massage, yoga, meditation, boating, and fishing. Places of interest in& around Vaikom: 1. Vaikom Shiva Temple; one of the oldest Shiva temples in Kerala. 2. Kshetra Kalapeetam; This center for traditional Kerala music and dance percussion instruments training offers courses in temple musial instruments. 3. Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary; An ornithologist Paradise, this is one of the favorite destinations of migratory birds like Siberian stork cormorants I am a graduate and state level license from Govt. of Kerala None
