Overview of your Kochi tour

The Kerala backwaters are a chain of brackish lagoons and lakes lying parallel to the Arabian Sea coast of Kerala state in southern India. The backwaters have a unique ecosystem: freshwater from the rivers meets the seawater from the Arabian Sea. Many unique species of aquatic life including crabs, frogs and water birds such as terns, kingfishers, darters and cormorants and turtles live in and alongside the backwaters. The kettuvallams (Kerala houseboats) in the backwaters are one of the prominent tourist attractions in Kerala. The kettuvallams were traditionally used as grain barges, to transport the rice harvested in the fertile fields alongside the backwaters. Ketuvallams are motorized but generally proceed at a slow speed. Ketuvallams have generators and bedrooms are air-conditioned. Food is cooked on board by accompanying staff, mostly having a Kerala flavor. Towards Fortkochi to visit some historical monuments and European landmarks like ST. Francis church, Chinese fishing net, dutch palace etc.

Biju picked us up (group of 10 adults) from Cochin International Cruise Terminal on time. Our spacious van was clean, comfortable and air-conditioned. Our driver was good considering the heavy traffic and narrow local roads. When we mentioned we like to eat custard apple and drink coconut water, Biju bought them by the roadside refusing to accept our money. Our Coco Houseboat was big and clean, just for our group. We had the traditional Kerala food served on the top deck. Everything was fresh and delicious. We then went to Fort Kochi, St Francis Church and took pictures of Chinese fishing nets. Biju wanted to show us the spice store and his town but we had to go back to the ship for a dinner booking and had to decline. We stopped at a Silk boutique to use their clean comfort rooms. 2 ladies in our group had a great time shopping for silk scarves and linen & silk dresses. Fantastic tour!

So happy that we found Bijou as our guide for the day in Kochi. His communication before the day was very good, leaving us confident in meeting and that our day would go smoothly. We love learning of different cultures when we travel and Bijou had buckets full of knowledge on the area, having been born and raised in Fort Kochi. His explanation was clear and accurate and he made our day run smoothly. We had a great lunch on an Aleppey houseboat whilst cruising the backwaters, the food freshly prepared on board and very traditional Keralaean We saw all the important things we wanted, Altogether an excellent day and I recommend you book him

What a fantastic tour we had with Biji. Despite the fact that our tour timetable was compressed due to a late change of departure time from 5pm to 3pm our Aleppey tour went faultless due to Biju arriving early and ensuring that everything was ready for us on the Keruvlian boat when we went on board. We had a great time on the boat down the Aleppey rivers and a mist enjoyable Kerala curry lunch on board. We arrived back at our ship on time And the car travel was quick and safe through narrow roads. Cannot recommend Biju, his driver and the staffing board the boat highly enough.

Our group of 8 had such a great time on this tour! Biju was a very informative, professional, and fun tour guide. He did a great job of coordinating with us before the trip and making sure the final details were ironed out, and came right on time to pick us up the day of. The bus that drove us to and from the backwater tour was very clean and the ride felt safe. The house boat we rode in Aleppey was very nice as well. Biju had so much knowledge of Kochi and the surrounding areas and shared so many interesting facts with us. Overall we highly recommend this tour!

Biju was an amazing leader for our houseboat tour in Aleppey. He made sure we had a fantastic experience with local flavor. Although the ride from the cruise ship was long, he took a road less traveled with lots of local scenery. Our local Indian meal on board the houseboat was delicious. What we liked most was his narrative about India and the people. We highly recommend him.

On our tour through the backwaters and Kochi, Biju was not only a tour guide but a friend. He was enthusiastic about providing us an authentic and memorable experience full of history lessons, pop culture references, and the local Kerala traditions. After the boat tour, he took us to a hidden beach, to get the freshest spices, and to observe the work of boat-makers. Biju seemed to know every other person in the city and responded to all our questions and inquiries through the day. Highly recommend him!
