Hello, my name is Jason and the condensed story is that I grew up in the middle of the US (central Illinois), studied history and married a German. My first trip to Europe was in 1997. I spent three years teaching in the US and then finished writing my M. A. in History in Germany. I started working as a tour guide about 15 years ago for companies in Munich as well as directly for the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial site. My wife is originally from the Nuremberg area and I explored the city in my free time on our holidays and weekends there. The more I got to know the city, the better I liked it. Although the Third Reich sites and courthouse are the initial draw for some people, the city has a thousand years of fascinating history, fantastic Gothic architecture, welcoming people and a bit of an independent streak that I could identify with. I'd be happy to help you explore these places with a walking tour. Please note that I do not offer driving tours, food tours or shopping tours. Jason E. Certified by the Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial M.A. in History from Illinois State University

Overview of your Nuremberg tour

Discover a truly extraordinary place: beautiful and prosperous medieval walled city, center of the Holy Roman Empire, cradle of the German Renaissance, and home to both the Nuremberg Nazi Rallies and Nuremberg Trials. You'll see where German Emperors reigned, where saints are buried, where some of the most famous German artists in history created awe-inspiring works and where the colorful markets have taken place for almost 700 years. We explore the enchanting Old Town with its fantastic regional food and drink. We then visit The Nazi Party Rally Grounds, site of the infamous Nuremberg Rallies, with some of the largest 3rd Reich architecture left in the world. You'll see the remains of the Luitpold Arena, Luitpold Hall, Congress Hall of the Nazi Party, the Great Street, and you'll see how Nuremberg confronts this past today and how the area is used now. I've given tours of Nuremberg for over 15 years. I'd be happy to help you get to know it and answer any questions.

Your Nuremberg tour itinerary

The tour is very flexible, but normally we see the Old Town first, including the Craftsmens' Court, St. Lawrence Church, Holy Ghost Hospital, Marketplace, Town Hall, St Sebald, Albrecht Dürer Haus, and Imperial Castle coutyards. Then we take a bus out to the former Nazi rally grounds, including the Luitpold Arena from the film "Triumph of the Will". Usually the tour is about half Old Town and half rally grounds but we can certainly spend more time or less time in certain places. We can also see the Nuremberg Trials Courthouse instead of the rally grounds if you wish. Just let me know at the beginning of the tour if there is anything in particular you are interested in seeing. Please note that this is a walking tour. I do not offer driving tours, food tours or shopping tours.
