Hi. I was born in the heart of England and after graduating in history and archaeology from the University of Wales Bangor I spent a few years working as an archaeologist and historic conservator in some of the U. K's grandest castles and manors. I moved to Munich 12 years ago and since then I have worked as a tour guide covering all aspects of local history, from Munich's medieval origins to the Nazis. Over the years of working in I have developed a special interest in the local brewing history and beer drinking culture and as well as the history and palaces of the royal family. Medieval history and the early years of the Nazi's are also passions of mine. On my tours I love to look beyond the typical and delve more deeply into Munich's fascinating history and culture by showing my guests it's grandest palaces, hidden gems, traditional beerhalls and as much as we can squeeze in on a tour. My aim is to show you the best of Munich and provide for you an unforgettable day out. The Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial Site stands as one of the most significant reminders of the atrocities committed during the Holocaust. Established in 1933 as the first Nazi concentration camp, Dachau became the model for all other concentration camps that followed. Today, it serves as a place of remembrance, education, and reflection. Our tour to this important site is designed to provide historical context, personal stories, and a comprehensive understanding of life inside the camp. During your time with your memorial qualified guide you will explore the various parts of the camp, including its original gas chambers and crematorium reconstructed barracks, and poignant memorials while learning about how Dachau was born and evolved over time from being a symbol of terror into a site of systematic murder through labour.
Your tour guide will meet you on platform 21 at the Hauptbahnhof and together you will take a train and a bus to the memorial site, (approx. 40 mins). Upon arrival there will be a quick 5-minute break for the toilet before we begin the 3 hour tour on site. From there you will enter the site via the old gatehouse then be taken around the site. Here you will learn about the various aspects of day-to-day life in Dachau as you visit each different part of the camp such as the museum, the bunker and rebuilt barracks. You will also see roll call square, the reconstructed ditches and barbed wire that stopped people escaping the site. Finally, we will spend the last half hour on site in the crematorium area where the original gas chamber and ovens remain today, and you will learn about the process of killings and burning of the bodies took place here. You will also view the mass graves of ash as well.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
We will take a regional train to Dachau bahnhof and from there a bus to the site. Travel time is, including waiting times, around 40 mins.
