The 'Spiritual Road' you won't find on google, because it is my own creation. It is more authentic than the "Romantic Road". - Altötting is undoubtedly the pearl of Catholic Christianity in Germany and one of seven 'Shrines of Europe' (Marian pilgrimage sites). With its monks and seven churches clustered around two squares, this city is home to the famous miraculous Image of Mary. - Marktl is the birthplace of the 2005-2013-Pope Benedict XVI (*1927 in Marktl; † 2022 Vatikan). And the rural hills offer many more superlatives on our journey, like: - Archbishop's town of Freising - Erding is home to the famous wheat beer brewery "Erdinger Weißbier" and houses Europe's largest thermal baths (with nudism). - Dorfen is the finest example of a laid-back medieval town. - Ampfing houses an Open Air Energy Museum. - Mühldorf, the center of the so-called "Bavarian chemical triangle", has retained its Mediterranean-style town centre.
