Since I was a child, I have loved history and arts. As in 2008 I moved to Görlitz a dream came true: living in a wonderful historical town full of listed buildings. I was born in the Netherlands and after living 12 years in Poland I moved with my Polish wife and my Children to Görlitz. We are a multi-lingual family which fits very well in a more or less bilingual town just on the German-Polish border. I studied theology in the Netherlands, Poland and Czech Republic and in the past, I also taught arts history in Wroclaw, Poland. Besides my work as guide, I write articles and teach Dutch and English and give lectures on the Arts and History at the Adult Education Center in Görlitz. My hobbies and passions are history and art history. I love to delve into new areas of history and art history and I also love to impart my knowledge to others. I also love travelling with my family, discovering new towns, landscapes and countries. I am excited about the town and area where I live and I love it to guide guests in the town and area and to make them excited as well. In 2015 I got my license to guide the basic and various other tours in the town Görlitz. After that I also got licenses to guide in the historic churches in Görlitz, in the area of the Holy Sepulcher, a unique late medieval replica of the grave chapel in Jerusalem and for in the three main museums in Görlitz. At the moment I am preparing for licenses in the city of Dresden and the Gemäldegalerie Alte Meister (Old Masters Picture Gallery) in Dresden. Görlitz, about one hour driving east from Dresden is for many the most beautiful town in Germany. It has around 4, 000 listed buildings, an amount you won't find anywhere else in Germany. Here you can travel back in the past, as almost nowhere in Germany and you can have the unique experience of walking through a town without modern buildings and with virtually no war damage at all. It is not without reason that many Hollywood and other movies were made in Görlitz. That's why Görlitz is also called Görliwood. Whereas Dresden is wonderfully rebuilt and reconstructed, in Görlitz everything you see is no reconstruction but is a real witness of the past. The German-Polish border goes right through the town center which makes it a special experience to visit our town. Many choose Dresden as a place to stay and make a trip to Görlitz, but why not stay in Görlitz, to explore and feel this wonderful town and make daytrips from Görlitz in the area around? In my tours you will surely learn a lot of interesting things, but it is not a lecture. Holiday should be fun, relaxing and full of interesting experiences and that is what I want to give you. Please let me know if you have special wishes. I am flexible and can adapt your tour according to your wishes and expectations. You will discover and experience a lot, but whenever you want, we can make a break for a coffee and would be happy to recommend my favorite restaurants, cafés and even book them for you if you wish. My goal is to give you a wonderful and unforgettable time in Görlitz. All tours are on foot. Görlitz is a small town, everything can be visited on foot and that is also how you will experience the most. I can pick you up at your hotel, from the railway station, or I we meet at another point. This is the perfect tour to discover one of the most wonderful historical and undamaged towns in Germany which is like a big open-air museum. Here you can go back in time and make a walk through the ages. Everything you see is really old and that gives you a unique experience walking through the town. Going with me on this tour you will understand why at once I fell in love with this town and only wanted to live here. When you love history and architecture, here is everything you want. I'd love it to share my passion for this town with you. Görlitz has the biggest undisturbed areal of late 19th century architecture in the whole of Germany with many buildings in the styles of historicism and some unique Art Nouveau buildings, like the famous department store, known from the movie "The Grand Budapest Hotel". Since 1945 the German-Polish border goes right through the town. That's why you can experience here how we live in one town in two countries and you can cross the border without even noticing it.
-We will start at your chosen time at the meeting point and enjoy a splendid walk through the old town. -You will see the renaissance houses. When open, we will see one of the famous central halls (these are private houses, so I cannot guarantee a visit, but I will do my best to get inside one of these houses). -We will visit St Peter's Church, the biggest hall church in Eastern Germany (only possible during regular opening hours) -After a coffee break upon your wish, we will continue and cross the border to see the Polish part of town with the Rühmeshalle, with a copy of the original dome of the Reichstag in Berlin. -At the end you will see some wonderful streets of the 19th century with some unique Art Nouveau buildings. This tour can of course be customized or extended in several ways depending on your interests, just let me know and I am happy to advice you. -Visit one of the other churches -Visit one or two of the museums -Prolong the walk in the 19th century parts of town

This is a walking tour. Görlitz is rather small and the distances are not too big.
