La Rochelle is one of the oldest French harbour on the Altlantic Coast. The city is famed for its archway streets, its old harbour and its medieval towers, and also dozens of renaissance and neoclassical private mansions. The old city is packed with evidences of its past grandeur. The canon shaped gargoyles are evidences of its independence, the Huron faces sculpted on the facades recall the powerful trade link that once existed between North America and the city.
