My name is Romain and I'm a professional battlefields tour guide in Normandy. I grew up in Western France, and very early on, I developed a particular interest in military history. I spent some of my childhood playing in ruined medieval castles and WW2 German bunkers on the coast. I remember watching the movie The Longest Day every year ! I started guiding 16 years ago, first as a summer job in several castles and medieval towns. I later studied History, Art History and Archaeology to become a certified Tour Guide, which happen in 2013. I arrived in Normandy in 2014 and started working first for a tour company, taking thousands of tourists on the landing beaches, which took me back on my old childhood passion ! I kept extending my knowledge, meeting veterans, family members which I took on their relative graves, and many passionate people. While on this job, I had the opportunity to guide in many other places, such as Mont-Saint-Michel, Giverny, Rouen, Honfleur or Saint-Malo. I am now working as an independent tour guide. I had the pleasure of participating in the award-winning documentary "Frog Fathers: Lessons from the Normandy Surf", as well as others small documentaries. I volunteered for the Best Defense Foundation, which brought back dozens of American WW2 veterans for the DDay Anniversaries. Finally, I had the chance of participating in the recovery of an American soldier who was Missing in Action: he is now buried at the Normandy American Cemetery. I am eager to share with you my passion and knowledge about French and Normandy History, and take you on a journey on the footsteps on the men who landed on June 6th 1944. Join me for a moving day exploring the American D-Day sites in Normandy. Starting from Cherbourg, we’ll walk the cliffs of Pointe du Hoc, stand where the landings took place on Omaha Beach, and take time to honor the fallen at the Normandy American Cemetery. We’ll also visit Sainte-Mère-Église, the first town liberated by American paratroopers, made famous by the paratrooper caught on the church steeple. Along the way, I’ll share stories that bring these places to life and help you connect with the incredible courage and sacrifice of June 6, 1944.
