Tour Guide for now nine wonderful years, I am a very positive and ongoing person. It is really hard to get away the smile from my face ;o) When I decided to get my guiding license, more than 9 years ago now, I thought first, that it could be a summer job while on holiday from teaching, but I quickly realized what a great job guiding can be. I use to say, that now, my students are older than before, and are now really very interested in what they want me to speak about. Even better. I started doing tours for friends from California, years ago, then friends of their friends, and I now take people on my tours who become friends ;o) I live in in Normandy, where I was born, but I also lived in Paris, in the US , and in some other countries. That gives me the ability to understand other cultures and to adapt myself. Yet, Paradise is for me "here" in the green pastures of Normandy. Both my grandparents lived through the German occupation, and both were in the French Resistance. I have a very strong connection to my region. That really started my passion for digging in the past. After an education in Normandy, I went studying History and Journalism in Paris at the Sorbonne. As a real History buff, I have created some unique itineraries no one else did before me, like the real Viking tour on the footsteps of the Vikings of Normandy. I try as much as possible to do things the best I can. I am a perfectionist, and I assume. I am married and have two lovely daughters. Besides my family and my job, I love horses. On this full day tour from Cherbourg, you'll walk on the footsteps of the 156 000 GI's who liberated France and Europe. With me, you'll gain the unique perspective of the grandson a resistance fighters, who told me "almost " everything they went through during these awful 4 years. Things I didn't find in history books, even the best ones. In Arromanches, you'll immerse yourself in the terrible first days of combat. In Longues sur Mer, you'll grasp what was really the Atlantic Wall. In Ste Mère Eglise, I'll explain you in details how the Americans were able to capture the Cherbourg Peninsula so quickly and its importance for the battle of Normandy and Europe. On Omaha beach, you'll walk on holy grounds as I'll explain you in details the initial assault. And, of course, at the Normandy American Cemetery, I'll share with you the stories of many of the 9388 young boys fallen here for Liberty. At the end of the day I usually hear : "too bad we did not book more than one day to visit Normandy with Igor. "
Igor was AMAZING! He should be your guide for this area 100%. If you want to learn about the War and things specific to D-Day pick him. Everything was fantastic and we accomplished all of our goals for this (what felt like quick) excursion. Thanks Igor!
We learned so much from Igor during our tour of the American Cemetery, Omaha Beach, and Pointe du Hoc. Unfortunately, our cruise ship departure time caused Igor to have to make changes to our tour schedule, but he made sure we were still able to visit many important sites. We enjoyed our day with him.
Our group of five had an outstanding tour with Igor. He is an excellent tour guide with extensive knowledge and insight of the importance of all the sites we visited. Igor is engaging and is able to discuss the historical context in depth. He is not your average tour guide. In addition, Igor kept to a perfect schedule which included a terrific lunch at a nice restaurant. All in all we really enjoyed our day with Igor.
What an amazing day touring the beaches of Normandy from Cherbourg. This tour was a redo of our last Normandy trip in 2019. Without a guide it felt like we didn't even brush the surface of the history of WWII by ourselves. At the completion of this tour today with Igor Rosen, I have gained so much knowledge and deeper appreciation for the past and the role of American soldiers who sacrificed so much. His familial stories and his vast knowledge about the plight of many American soldiers was incredible.
If there was the ability to rate Igor as a 'six', we would have done so. All six of us on Igor's tour were just 'blown away' with his professionalism, organization and deep knowledge of all things Normandy. Not a moment was 'wasted' in our day long tour. We all felt like we were 'drinking from a fire hose' as he bombarded us with facts, figures and personal D-Day stories. He even 'gave us a quiz' on our drive back to the ship. Collectively, we probably should be graded as a 'C'--a generous grade.
