Discover the Painted Byzantine Churches in the Troodos Mountains on a full-day tour from Limassol

We start from Limassol (Lemesos) and visit 4 out of 12 painted Byzantine churches that belong to the UNESCO World Heritage List, as well as one painted Byzantine church of the same era which is not listed in the UNESCO List. The churches are the following: Ayios Sozomenos in Galata (14th century AD), Panayia Podithou in Galata (14th century AD), Archangelos in Galata (14th century AD), Ayios Nikolaos of the Roof at Kakopetria (12th century AD) and Panayia Forviotissa at Asinou (12th century AD). We have a coffee break in Kakopetria and a lunch break in Asinou. The churches are fully decorated with frescoes. During the Byzantine period, most people could not read and write, so in order to understand the Bible, churches were decorated with scenes from the Bible. As an educated tourist guide I will give you an overview of the artistic perspective of the frescoes.
