Monkodonja hill is located 5 km east from Rovinj. On the hilltop (75m) you can visit the remains of one of the most interesting Bronze Age (1800 - 1200 BC) archaeological sites in Europe. It was discovered in 1953 and it is one of 350 prehistoric settlements remains on the Istrian Peninsula. Due to serious excavations and researches within the last 20 years conducted by Berlin University and AMI Pula, the conclusion is that Monkodonja is one of most valuable sites in Europe from that period. The town was entirely built by local limestone with dry-wall technique, divided into 3 sections: Acropolis - highest part for highest ranked members of the community, the middle part with remains of workshops and living houses, and lover part with more than 1 km long defensive wall. Monkodonja could be one of most valuable prehistoric sites in this part of Europe when more or fully researched - beside of being historic it is also a very spiritual and transcendental place, for those who like it?
