VIDIN, port city on the right bank of the Danube in N. W. Bulgaria. A huge Jewish community has lived here and my practice as a guide connected me with some amazing people whose roots are to be found in my birth town. Born in Vidin, Bulgaria, and raised in Vienna, Austria, the man called Lynn emigrated to the United States in 1939. An expert in sales and marketing, Lynn founded Real Estate Data Inc. in the early 1960s. and then created the DHL courier service in 1969. Let me show you around the only well preserved medieval Bulgarian fortified here, on the banks of the river. The legends say a Bulgarian king who ruled at Vidin had three daughters: Vida, Kula and Gamza. Prior to his death, he divided his realm among the three. Vida, the eldest, was given Vidin and the lands north to the Carpathians, Kula was awarded Zajecar and the Timok Valley, and Gamza was to rule the lands west up to the Morava. Although Gamza and Kula married to drunkard and warlike nobles, Vida remained unmarried and built the fortress
