In the 70s began the construction of this gigantic hydroelectric plant which is still the largest producer of energy annually. Itaipu is a milestone in the transformation of Brazil and brought to these lands thousands of workers who brought development to the region. Today Itaipu has a tourist complex of the highest quality with lots of interesting information and is one of the highlights of the land of the falls. This tour is priced for a group of 3. This tour is great to go with the Brazilian side of falls. It is a great project accomplished by Paraguay and Brazil. The panaromic tour bus ticket allows us to see the entire dam on a double decker bus. Marcelo was togethere with us and explained certain features and the audio from the bus also provided information about the project. This dam is right at the river mouth and far from Foc Iguassu. That's why we need Marcelo to be our private guide! He is the best guide for both Brazil and Argentina!
Friendly and efficient
Provided interesting info, was well spoken, an interesting guy and a good driver. We toured the exterior of the dam, which we could have done on our own with taxi drives but as we also wanted to end the tour in another country and hotel Marcelo fit the bill for us. I'm sure with his knowledge of nature as well as the points of interest in the area that, if another traveller had more time, he would provided an excellent day.
Marcelo is a great guide. He was very accomodating on our trip and we had him for two consecutive days. We did the Dam tour and bird sanctuary on the same day. The tour left a little to be desired but Marcelo was great.
