Los Alerces National Park

Created in 1937 to protect the ancient Alerce forests and awarded UNESCO World Heritage status in 2017, Los Alerces National Park is a truly unmissable day out. We'll take the Ruta 71 road and head deep into the Park's verdant glacial valleys, stopping along the way to experience first-hand the amazing - and in many cases unique - flora and fauna. We'll travel back in time and get up close to the awe-inspiring ancient rock paintings, surrounded by birdsong and the heady scent of broom and lupins. As we venture deeper into the native forest, we'll experience first-hand the habitat of elusive predators such as the puma, the austral spotted cat and the huillín (an endangered species of otter). We may even encounter some of the more gregarious animals, such as the Chucao, a sociable little songbird with a distinctive call, who will often wonder up to greet visitors to its wooded home!

0900 - Hotel pickup. 1000 - Ancient Rock Paintings. A visit to the mysterious rock paintings, created some 2000 years ago by the some of the region's earliest inhabitants. 1145 - Early lunch on the shores of Lago Futalaufquen 1330 - River Arrayanes Hanging Bridge. A guided walk along the banks of the stunning River Arrayanes to Puerto Chucao and back, through the native Andean-Patagonian woodland (difficulty level low-medium). 1630 - Return to hotel 1800 - Hotel drop-off The itinerary can be customized according to your preferences and interests.
