I regret that at the end of 2024 I will cease "driver guiding" around Wales but I will stay on as a guide for local tours or groups that have their own transport. So please book for this year!!
I have had a wonderfully diverse career, from fruit farming, to healthcare and education. All of the elements have enhanced my guiding knowledge.
I originally trained as a nurse in London, then gained a BA Hons in History at Exeter University before raising a family and running a fruit farm for 20 years. Then I became a Chair of NHS Health Boards in South Wales. I was appointed to the Council of Cardiff University because of my NHS interests and the largest employer in Wales.
My love of the history and geography of Wales has increased with age and I am so thrilled now to have time to share this passion with visitors. I am learning the whole time - I will never know everything but happy to share all the delightful stories and facts that I do have with you my guests.
Please let me know in advance if you have particular interests as I love researching new areas and histories.
My own relaxations are cycling (not steep hills) Scottish country dancing, gardening, opera, plays, and terribly sentimental TV series !
My children are currently scattered over the world so I travel a lot to see them.

As I live in Cardiff I sense both the past and present energy of this charming Victorian and modern city. I love the Victorian arcades, one of which reminds me of Harry Potter's Diagon Alley! Lots of TV series have been filmed in Cardiff such as Sherlock and Dr Who.

It is impossible to define the exact route as it will depend your preferences!

We will stroll in the centre of the city to see the key sites such as the Castle, the exterior of the City Hall and arcades, and then we will drive to Caerphilly Castle, the largest ruined castle in South Wales. This mighty castle with its metres thick walls was built more quickly than most houses are built today! Just imagine the workforce needed in 13th century.

Cardiff, The Capital of Wales

This tour should give you a picture of present and past life in South Wales by combining panoramic views and stories of the people who lived here. We will drive out of Cardiff up towards the famous Welsh mining Valleys - we will visit the Mining town of Merthyr Tydfil and Dowlais to see the remains of the old industry etc then drive on to the Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brecheiniog) to enjoy the scenery and ancient history. Drop into Brecon Cathedral to learn more about Welsh soldiers through the ages. Then drive westwards so the we can see other ancient sites and possibly yew trees that are at least 2000 years old. Return via Glamorganshire and if time stop at the market town of Cowbridge,

Cardiff and the Valleys

The tour will take you through centuries of history from Roman times to the present. We will find the influence of Roman Soldiers, Norman knights and Cistercian monks as well as industrial remains, to the Victorian extravagance at Castell Coch. The landscape is varied from the twists of the River Wye to the panoramas from the hills. Today so much is being done to preserve the past and save the beauty of South Wales.
