I have lived in Japan since 1999 and I moved to the UNESCO World Heritage island of Yakushima in 2011. I began guiding on Yakushima in 2013. I have experience of high altitude treks (over 5, 000 metres) as well as expedition hikes in Europe and Asia. Yakushima has a number of great hikes through a wide variety of landscapes; from sub-tropical to sub-alpine. The island is a natural paradise, but it also has a historical and cultural story that sets it apart from mainland Japan. Visitors to Yakushima should consider at least 3 days upon the island as a recommended itinerary would include both an island tour and a forest tour as this would leave the visitor with a rich impression of Yakushima.
