I have lived in Japan since 1999 and I moved to the UNESCO World Heritage island of Yakushima in 2011. I began guiding on Yakushima in 2013. I have experience of high altitude treks (over 5, 000 metres) as well as expedition hikes in Europe and Asia. Yakushima has a number of great hikes through a wide variety of landscapes; from sub-tropical to sub-alpine. The island is a natural paradise, but it also has a historical and cultural story that sets it apart from mainland Japan. Visitors to Yakushima should consider at least 3 days upon the island as a recommended itinerary would include both an island tour and a forest tour as this would leave the visitor with a rich impression of Yakushima. The Yakushima Island Tour is a full day tour around the entire island. Included in the tour are a number of waterfalls, a hot spa in the sea, a traditional south island village tour, the UNESCO western road where there is a high chance of seeing endemic macaques & deer, beautiful river spots, the Inakahama (turtle) Beach and much more. The itinerary of the Island Tour can be arranged to suit your interests and also to suit the weather on the day of the tour. We can also arrange to collect you from the ferry or airport upon arrival in the morning and begin the tour immediately so as you are not wasting a valuable day on the island. Alternatively, if you have an afternoon departure back to the mainland then we can arrange an early start and have you back to the port/airport in time for your departure
