Hello, my name is Albena!

I live and work in Vidin, Bulgaria. I am a Doctor of Philosophy, I have specializations in the fields of theology, psychology, tourism. I am interested in art and literature. I participate in charity initiatives for homeless dog and cats and I love a lot animals. I have been showing my region to many guests within the last 20 years. I love working with people.

My main goal is to infect each and every tourist with my passion for the Bulgarian nature, heritage and people. I'm in love with my country and my region. Taking private guests around is one of my favourite professional pleasures. Meanwhile I use the knowledge I gain every time I meet different cultures to upgrade my guide's talks of Bulgaria and Vidin Region, too.

I can not imagine a better way to show you my birth corner of the Earth, but to start with the magic drawings cave/one of the three of the type in Europe, with the only preserved prehistoric world's calendar/, and then to go in the steps of the legend for the area.

Once there was a rich Bulgarian boyar who had extensive estates stretching from the Carpathians to the Balkan Mountain. After his death, his three daughters Vida, Kula and Gamza split his possessions among themselves. Kula (with a center in today's Bulgarian homonymous town) and Gamza (her capital was Gamzigrad, today in Serbia) - married but fell in for bad husbands, who easily wasted their father's legacy. The eldest sister, Vida, remained single.

Under her guidance, a castle was built up where she lived to a ripe old age and successfully defended her subjects and lands from foreign attacks. As a sign of gratitude after her death, people named it the Baba Vida towers.

In the steps of the Romans

Let me show you some artifacts, as well as the Roman excavations at the places of my life. I was born in the present Archar, atop Ratiaria, as my whole childhood was spent in the near village where the Roman aristocrats used to make their luxury villas. I remember the awful feeling at the English language school in Vidin/once Bononia/ when asked by the teacher where I was born, I felt so miserable to name the village of Archar, when the others proudly were saying "The town of Vidin".

But I still didn't know that. . .

Many Roman patricians lived in Ratiaria, named Colonia Ulpia Traiana Ratiaria after its founder the Emperor Trajan, while the nearby Bononia (today's Vidin) was the home only of a small military unit.

In the 2nd and 3rd centuries Ratiaria became an important trade centre and a port. Today, modern scanners have shown that underground, next to the village of Archar, an ancient town is buried, times more and much better preserved in comparison of Pompeii.

VIDIN, port city on the right bank of the Danube in N. W. Bulgaria. A huge Jewish community has lived here and my practice as a guide connected me with some amazing people whose roots are to be found in my birth town.
Born in Vidin, Bulgaria, and raised in Vienna, Austria, the man called Lynn emigrated to the United States in 1939. An expert in sales and marketing, Lynn founded Real Estate Data Inc. in the early 1960s. and then created the DHL courier service in 1969.
Let me show you around the only well preserved medieval Bulgarian fortified here, on the banks of the river.
The legends say a Bulgarian king who ruled at Vidin had three daughters: Vida, Kula and Gamza. Prior to his death, he divided his realm among the three. Vida, the eldest, was given Vidin and the lands north to the Carpathians, Kula was awarded Zajecar and the Timok Valley, and Gamza was to rule the lands west up to the Morava. Although Gamza and Kula married to drunkard and warlike nobles, Vida remained unmarried and built the fortress
