I moved to Washington, DC in 2000 with the intention of staying three to five years. However, I quickly fell in love with the city and the diversity of our country's history as noted in the stories popping out around every corner of the city. Since being in Washington, I have relished the time I spend with family and friends, telling those stories, and I look forward to doing the same with you. Experiencing Washington DC on foot is the most delightful way to see this historical and wondrous city - really touching and feeling this place: absorbing the energy, getting close to the stunning architecture, talking with local residents on the streets - in essence, experiencing life the way locals do. I am an enthusiastic and creative professional private tour guide. I am timely, people-oriented, and I will offer you a meaningful, personal private tour. If possible, I like to add a surprise site to each of my tours. I am a licensed Washington DC guide and a member of the Guild of Professional Tour Guides of Washington DC. I am unable to provide transportation. I am open to using public transport and ride shares/taxis when necessary. Note that I don't provide museum tours, nor large group walking or bus tours.

Join me in stepping into America's front yard and delighting in the history and events as told by our national memorials and monuments. Every monument and memorial has its own unique story. We'll discuss the national figures behind the memorials, the history surrounding their time in history, and some surprising and unfamiliar facts about each. I will never forget the first time I climbed the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, read the names of our Vietnam War heroes on the Wall and wondered about their lives and loves, and stood on the site where Dr. King gave his riveting "I Have A Dream" speech. Please join me for this and so much more. Note that I am doing only daytime tours of the monuments and memorials.
We had a great day with Susan on the national mall. Her itinerary was well thought out and she gave us lots of choices to modify to fit our interests. We appreciated hearing her unique stories and perspectives at each location. She is a wealth of knowledge and historical perspective about each period in time that the location commemorates and was later built. We look forward to doing Susan’s Georgetown tour on a future trip.
Susan was excellent. Guiding us around all the important monuments in 99 degrees - which for those of us from the UK are unheard of temperatures! - ensuring we all had plenty to drink and arranged us in the shade as much as possible. Susan brought such interesting stories and anecdotes to enliven the tour and made it such an amazing experience for us all.
Susan was engaging and a delight. She kept our 2 boys (age 10 and 13) involved and even brought them Halloween treats! Thank you for a great tour!
Susan was great! We had a rainy day, but Susan was a trooper from beginning to end, knowing how to make the best of a the poor weather. We all enjoyed the Memorials tour and the stories Susan shared really brought some of the history to life. My 14-year old boy also loved it a got a lot out of it. Immensely knowledgeable, great energy and passion, and fun. We learned so much more than if we had tried to do it ourselves. We definitely would recommend Susan for any of DC's tours.

We loved our tour with Susan for the DC Monuments! Susan had excellent communication before the tour to connect with us as well as after the tour, giving a few more suggestions for the rest of our trip. I hadn't been on a private walking tour in the US before and Susan's knowledge and candor were extensive and fun. The pacing was good, she gave us options to 'go the whole time' or tap out if we needed to. She has several other tours which we would love to take advantage of on a future trip to DC.
