Washington to Gettysburg Battlefield Tour

We are so grateful that we did this tour with Tom. We did a half-day tour of Gettysburg with our 11 and 14 year olds, and all four of us said this was the highlight of our three-day D.C. trip. If you are wondering about whether you should visit Gettysburg at all, we highly recommend it! We only had three days in D.C., and this was a great way to spend one of our days. As a contrast to the bustle of the many things to see in D.C., Gettysburg is far less travelled and far more personal. Tom did a wonderful job of making my kiddos truly understand what the experience must have been like - from the engaging video at the visitor center to the stories of the regiments at each site, both our kids were captivated and eager to understand more. And if you are wondering if Tom is the right travel guide, I can't encourage you more. Our family has used Tours By Locals with great success in several states, but this tour really stood out. Tom is not only exceptionally knowledgeable, but he is also patient, considerate, and engaging for even the most prone to be disinterested (need I remind you we travelled with teenagers?!). Our group included participants with a wide variety of interest levels and Tom managed to make it fun and comfortable for all involved. I wouldn't hesitate to call him again for our next D.C. tour.

We had a great time with a tour of everything we drove by on the way out and the way back. Excellent battlefield knowledge and stories with deep understanding of the history and circumstances surrounding the civil war battle. Lunch at the bakery was delicious in downtown Gettysburg. Couldn’t have had more fun on a tour of the area, battlefield and ride back and forth, we had a great time and really enjoyed the day. Would strongly recommend taking this tour to anyone wanting an enjoyable day taking in the Gettysburg Museum, battlefields and historical references while driving out and back, truly and unforgettable experience!!!

Our trip to Gettysburg was fantastic. Tom is a prompt, kind, and interesting tour guide, who explains history with intriguing details and stories. He helped me with my wheelchair, and he was patient with all our questions. We enjoyed the restaurant he chose for lunch. I was concerned that the trip would feel too long, but we had such a good time visiting the area, that the time flew! Also, Tom talked to us about how to manage our schedule to get the most of our time in DC during the government shutdown and his advice was extremely helpful. I highly recommend him!

A wonderful tour and guide. A full day from 8.30am until 7.00pm. Tom was a very communicative and learned guide who explained everything but welcomed questions. So much to see and learn. An important event in American history and you are so close that you can touch it.

Tom drove us from Washington DC to Gettysburg and delivered a wonderful, fact-filled day of Civil War History. We all could feel the brutality of this tragic war through his narration. With his friendly demeanor and unassuming style, he connected with all 3 of us, making the trip both fun, educational as well as emotional. Our thanks to Tom for engaging with our 16 year old grandson and making this spring break "Magical History Tour" genuinely magical for all of us.
