Hi! I have been giving tours of Washington for over ten years. I have no set script - just lots of good stories to share - and pictures. Washington is easy to love - the world's most powerful city is also one of the world's most beautiful - wide avenues, old neighborhoods, abundant gardens, tree-lined streets and wooded parks. I think George Washington would be very pleased to see what became of the place he chose to be the new Federal City. The story of Washington D. C. is also the story of the beginning of a new nation. Its very existence is linked to the efforts of people such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison and Alexander Hamilton. Today, its memorials and buildings are part of our American identity and remind us of the important moments in our common history. These are the stories that inspire me and these are the stories I want to share. I have lived in Washington for over twenty years and am passionate about the history and people of this great town. The best part of being a tour guide is getting to meet wonderful people from all over the country and the world. I love making tours interesting and fun for people of all ages. But I think it is also important that each tour be meaningful - that the stories I tell and the places we visit reveal something essential about Washington and in a larger sense, about the history of our country. I am licensed by the city of Washington, D.C. as a tour guide and provide narrated tours of the city and surrounding area. I ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Some notes about touring with children: I really love having kids on my tours, but they do present a few challenges. Here's some of my observations about touring with children: Pre-school and kindergarten - they cannot do the walking required. And they need to be bribed with lots of treats! 5th grade and below - they love the Lincoln Memorial, White House and Washington Monument. After that - it becomes very hard to keep their attention. 8th grade and below - 3 hours is about the limit. We need to stick to the highlights - Lincoln Memorial, White House, Washington Monument and perhaps the Capitol. High school - depends on the group. I have also noticed that kids respond differently when they are traveling with their friends vs. when they are traveling with their parents. When they are with their friends they are more outgoing and vocal and enjoy the attention from a tour guide. When they are with their parents they seem more withdrawn and not as expressive.

The guide was really nice!!
My group hit it off with Joanna immediately. She brings an infectious energy that had us so excited to be in DC! Joanne was so accommodating into what we wanted to see and curated an experience based on what interested us while also being so agile to rolling with any changes. We saw Lafayette's statue and wanted to stop- no problem cause Joanne had great nuggets of info to go along with any distraction we found. We were walking around with our eyes wide open and Joanne was the perfect host! She was a wealth of knowledge and we enjoyed being with her so much that time flew by!
Joanne was a wonderful tour guide. Our granddaughter was most interested in the Library of Congress and Joanne customized the tour to start there and spent a lot of time there. It was incredibly hot the day of our tour and Joanne even brought cooling towels to help us survive.
This was a magic few days for me and my 12 old nephew. Extremely knowledgeable and made the city and history come to life.
Joanne provided a very informative and fun tour. Joanne was very knowledgeable about all that we saw on the tour and was very well prepared. It was a pleasure. I would highly recommend her. If I could rate 20 I would
Joanne is a fabulous tour guide! She's energetic, enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. My teenage sons and I learned a lot about the history of DC and the monuments and had fun too. Joanne was also kind enough to take several photos of us in front of the cherry trees and the monuments. I highly recommend this tour with Joanne!
We meet up at the Einstein statue at 2101 Constitution Avenue NW. Our first stop is the wonderful Lincoln Memorial followed by the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial (aka "The Wall"). Weather permitting, we can walk over to the Washington Monument. (approx. 60 min. ) Our next stop will be 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for views of the White House environs (including the West Wing) and Lafayette Park. (approx. 45 min. ) From the White House we taxi or Uber over to Capitol Hill and the Supreme Court. Depending on availability of timed-entry tickets, we can enter the wonderful Library of Congress (open M-Sat till 4:30pm). From the Library of Congress we walk downhill to find ourselves in front of the magnificent Capitol building looking up at the terraces where every president since Reagan has taken the oath of office. (approx. 60 min. )

This is primarily a walking tour. We will use taxis to cover the longer distances between the White House and the Capitol building and between the Capitol building and the Abraham Lincoln Memorial. Please be comfortable doing about 45 minutes of walking over the 3 hour tour duration.
