I am originally from France, having immigrated to the US in 1984 when I was 17. I moved to New York City in 2002 to go to graduate school to study sculpture at the New York Academy of Art. I fell in love with the city, and have been living here ever since. I am currently a Brooklyn-based artist whose work uses non-traditional materials such as recycled plastic shopping bags with traditional feminine crafts such as knitting, crochet and lace. I make large-scale installations using plastic and detritus as the main materials, and drawing on community-engagement and performance as a major component of the work. I taught as an adjunct professor at Wagner College on Staten Island, (drawing, sculpture, and public art) until 2020. My passion is art, and I want to share my love of New York City through all the wonderful public art that you can see around the city. I will show you iconic New York, and some hidden treasures for a memorable experience. New York City Sight Seeing License Master of Fine Arts - Sculpture. New York Academy of Art, New York, NY

The desire to stand out is as old as humanity. Go to the Metropolitan Museum of Art and discover 19th century graffiti on a 2000 year old Egyptian temple. During World War II, the "Kilroy was Here" tag was written by GIs around the world. We will go to the neighborhood of Bushwick, which was first a Dutch village, and has seen many changes: from a neighborhood of German immigrants, then Italians, and lately Puerto Ricans. With a new wave of gentrification, Bushwick has become a young neighborhood, and a neighborhood of artists. In this tour, we will see the murals of the Bushwick Collective, as well as the works of graffiti artists and artists from the neighborhood.
The Bushwick Collective murals change every year with a large street festival in early June. We will see artwork from the collective and some from locals artists and taggers. We will start on Starr street where many of the Bushwick Collective murals coexist with works from taggers and graffiti artists. We will go to the Maria Hernandez park, and see some of the signs of gentrification. We will loop down Troutman street and talk about the legendary Zexor, and his memorial mural. We will walk down to the L Train vintage store which is completed painted on all sides with street art, work our way down to Fine and Raw (a local vegan chocolate factory painted by Albernoz Espartaco). We will then walk down Jefferson St to see Owen Dippie's Radiant Madonna, with a Keith Haring style baby! We will loop back to where we started.
