Hi, I'm Ann M. , a native of Brooklyn and now a licensed New York City tour guide. Having spent my entire working career in the offices of Manhattan, there isn't a nook or cranny of NYC I'm not familiar with. So let me show you this amazing and fascinating town, especially via our wonderful subways, busses, ferries, and cable car! My mother came here from Scotland and my dad was a first generation New Yorker, born in Greenwich Village as a child of Irish immigrants who worked on the waterfront. Around the corner was the home of our scandalous Mayor Jimmy Walker. Our family then moved to the other great West Side neighborhood, Chelsea, now famous as the setting of the High Line. So how did we end up in Brooklyn? Simple: the apartments were cheaper! I was raised there in Park Slope, and my backyard was Prospect Park, the sibling of Manhattan's Central Park. Brooklyn in the '60s and '70s was a great place to grow up, with pizza, parks, street games, and the johnny pump (a. k. a. fire hydrant) to cool off in on a sweltering day. It was a beautiful time because my life was full of music from the radio and the records, most of which were produced in the offices and studios of nearby Manhattan. That love of music coincided with the beginning of my work life, where I was lucky enough to have a career in and around the music and entertainment businesses. I have composed several specialty tours for you based on these experiences. These tours will show you the venues, and tell you the inside stories, of your favorite musicians and the people who made them famous. Additionally, I can customize your New York experience to match your tastes and interests. So if you want to see Times Square, the Brooklyn Bridge, Rockefeller Center, Wall Street and the Stock Exchange, we can go there and then have pizza in Little Italy, or wonton soup in Chinatown, or pickles on the Lower East Side. It's up to you, it's your vacation! So email, we'll tawk! We will start at the historic Montauk Club and learn about the development of the neighborhood known as Park Slope. We'll walk down Brooklyn's famed treelined streets and see why those Brownstones became so popular. You'll learn about a tragic plane crash that occurred on a snowy day in December 1960 that up until 9/11 was the worst disaster in American aviation history. Then we'll stop by the wonderful authentic Brooklyn Pizza, Antonio's on Flatbush Avenue to relax for a bit. On this tour you'll definitely get a feel for why Brooklyn has been known as "the borough of churches". We'll observe Victorian architecture and learn about the men (the Litchfields) who created this place, now one of the most sought after neighborhoods in New York, but it wasn't always. We'll end at the Williamsburg Bank Building, across from Atlantic Terminal, which for generations was the tallest and most beloved building in Brooklyn.
