I am a member of the Institute of Tourist Guiding and have been working as a guide in Cambridge for seven years. I really love showing visitors around this beautiful, historic city with its University buildings, student traditions and wide open spaces. There is always something going on which makes it such an exciting place to visit! In fact, Cambridge has a wealth of experiences to offer, from visiting the colleges and museums, to punting on the river or strolling in parks. It is a thriving city, benefitting from its reputation as a centre for science and technology following the explosion of technology, life sciences and service companies, commonly known as the Cambridge Phenomenon. The atmosphere is very much of a university city, however, as the students are all around, either in accommodation owned by the colleges, or cycling to lectures on their bicycles! When not working, I enjoy exploring the museums and markets of Cambridge, playing tennis and badminton, travelling abroad and looking after my grandchildren. I am looking forward to meeting you and providing you with an interesting, informative and fun-filled tour of Cambridge! Have a look at my suggested tours or, if you prefer, I would be very happy to customize a tour specially for you. Institute of Tourist Guiding Degree: B.A. French I am not a driver. I can accompany you in your vehicle or I can arrange for a separate car and driver.

During this fascinating tour of my two favourite colleges, we'll spend about half the time at each. At King's College, founded by Henry VI, we'll enter the beautiful Chapel, celebrated for its Choir and annual Christmas Eve Carol Concert. We'll marvel at its awe-inspiring fan-vaulted ceiling and medieval stained glass windows, completed by King Henry VIII, famous for his six wives! Then we can wander down to the River Cam and read the famous Memorial Stone to a famous Chinese poet, Xu Zhimo who loved Cambridge. At Queens' College, founded firstly by Margaret of Anjou, wife of Henry VI in the 15th Century, and later by Elizabeth Woodville, wife of Edward VI , we can stroll through beautiful medieval courtyards, with Elizabethan timbered architecture, to see the famous Mathematical Bridge. Here we may watch flat-bottomed punts travelling along the river. I'll be happy to tell you stories about these two colleges, including the ancient student traditions and modern-day student pranks!
• Start at Market Square, Peas Hill, suggested starting point. • Stop at Great St Mary's University Church and the Senate House, where graduation ceremonies take place. • Visit King's College and Chapel, including walk to the river and the Backs. • Continue through the city past the Corpus Clock, an amazing modern clock, with its strange grasshopper. • Visit Queens' College including Chapel, Riverside Building and Mathematical Bridge • Return to Market Square along King's Parade.
Tell your guide which places matter to you, skip what doesn't, and tailor the experience for your group's needs. Not finding what you want? Message your guide to build something unique.
