Hello travelers! My name is David, born and raised in Figueres. Yes! Figueres, the birthplace of the genius Salvador Dalí and home of his amazing Theater Museum of surrealist art. After graduating in Economics at Girona University life took me to Hungary, Czech Republic, Australia and China to finish my formation in the field of International Relations and eventually Chinese Mandarin. My eagerness to learn push me to travel as much as I could and when I left China I started a two years overland journey that brought me home after several years away. Once at home I rediscovered Spain's beauty, its interesting culture, great gastronomy and excellent weather and decided to become a guide to share it with travellers from all over the world. As a guide, I've lead multiple days walking tours in the Camino de Santiago (St James Way), cycling tours in Costa Brava and Pyrenees and educational bus tours all over Spain. More than a job, guiding is my passion, especially in my home region L'Empordà which is one of the (possibly) many paradises on earth but this is the one I know best, guiding tours in here offers me the opportunity to share and enjoy it with you all. The beauty of the Empordà is enhanced when mixed with its rich history and culture. Today's tour bring us first to one of the area's gem. The Romanesque Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes hanging at 520 meters above sea level overlooking the Mediterrean Sea. Once home to a powerful monastic community and hustled by artisans and merchants living at the medieval village at its surroundings. Second, the lively Aiguamolls (marshlands) Natural Park. A natural enclave visited regularly by migrating brids and local fauna. And finally, after lunch, the Greek and Roman ruins of the Empúries city, an archeological site of great importance as this is the spot where the Greek set foot first in the whole Iberian Peninsula. A day full of local history!
Your Roses tour itinerary
We will meet in an agreed place in Roses to drive (approx 30 min) the scenic road up to the stunning Romanesque Monastery of Sant Pere de Rodes. The once home of a powerful monastic community hangs at 520 meters above sea level overlooking the Mediterranean and sits in between the ruins of a castle at the hilltop and of a medieval village. After the visit, we'll drive down to the plains to admire the beautiful Aiguamolls (marshlands) Natural Park, to check out the fauna that visits the area and admire the nature's beauty. Then, we'll power up with lunch in a countryside restaurant before heading out to the Greek and Roman ruins of the Empúries city, an archeological site of great importance as this is the spot where the Greek set foot first in the whole Iberian Peninsula.
