Košice is the second-largest city in Slovakia and represents the economic and cultural centre of eastern Slovakia. The first written mention of the city was in 1230 as "Villa Cassa"- The term villa meant and was linked with more important cities in those times. The period between the 13th-15 century brought prosperity and importance to the city which was highlighted by the date of 7th May 1369. Košice received the document of the coat of arms signed by the king as the first European town. Today it is celebrated as the "Day of Košice". Later on, the city was an important witness of several political changes that shaped history. From 4 anti-Habsburg uprisings in 1604-1645, Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in August 1968 to Velvet revolution in 1989. If you would like to visit the easternmost Gothic cathedral in Europe or discover the birthplace of the engineer who constructed the Corinth Canal, do not wait any longer.
This tour was a wonderful introduction to Kosice. The city center is charming and well maintained. We loved it! Juraj has a very good understanding of the layout of the city and its many historical events. He was a great tour guide.

This was a lovely way to spend Sunday Morning. Juraj met us at our apartment and we walked into the old town. The tour started straight away as there was lots of interesting history to report on the way. Juraj has amazing knowledge of the area and could answer any question we had. After the tour we all went for lunch together where we sampled local dishes. Would recommend this walking tour

What a lovely walk round the city. Juraj was really enthusiastic. Took us up to the cathedral tower which was wonderful. Went through the historic underground tunnels in the city. He explained all the political and historical facts on multiple buildings. Well worth the visit, he gave context to the city which was really useful and awesome. Even took us out for a drink afterwards. Lovely bloke don't think twice about booking .
