Dutch ancestry tour: Groningen

Excellent tour! I asked to see hometowns and churches of my ancestors in Groningen and he totally delivered. I do lots of genealogy but Jaap found more info that I didn't have. He spent hours creating a genealogy notebook for me. He also gave very good info on the dykes and took us up close to see how they worked. A few visits had to be arranged ahead of time and he took care of that. This was a very well planned and thought out tour! Jaap is very personable, knowledgeable and organized! Highly recommend!

The 2-day tour provided by Jaap was 6 out of 5! Jaap produced a booklet providing the genealogy of my four grandparents and a tour of the areas where they lived and worked. The details he uncovered were amazing. He located the farmhouse and barn where one of my grandparents was raised. I walked on the same floor boards my grandfather walked on as a child! You cannot have a better tour than a tour provided by Jaap. On a more personal note, we had a medical issue arise during the tour that required a short visit to a hospital. Jaap took charge and drove us to the hospital and coordinated the needed medical care. We cannot say enough about his caring and thoughtfulness. Jaap is an outstanding person and tour guide.

What a great Ancestry tour! Jaap de Boer is a careful and thorough researcher and we had a wonderful day touring the towns where my ancestors lived. He gave us a booklet that he had prepared with so much amazing and detailed information about my ancestors and background information about their lives. We were able to see places of birth, towns and farms where they lived, churches, graveyards and places they were married. Jaap is friendly, easy to communicate with and made the day very enjoyable. The area in northern Groningen and Friesland is so charming and beautiful! Lots of farmland, dikes (with sheep grazing on top), windmills, churches and brick houses with tiled roofs and brick or cobblestone roads. Jaap’s tour far exceeded my expectations!

Jaap is an excellent guide and ancestory researcher. It was a full day, but at an excellent pace. He returned us to Groningen Centraal for our return to Amsterdam; escorting us through the station and to the train platform.

The tour with Jaap through the Groningen area was absolutely incredible! He provided a 50 page book to go along with the tour. The tour and book were well thought out with incredible detail. This included pictures, old documents, a well connected family tree, and history of the area. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but Jaap exceeded all expectations! Do not hesitate to do a tour with him. He drove me all around the province with great knowledge, and took me places well off the beaten path.

Except for driving rain at the end, we spent a lovely Summer day with Jaap, traveling and learning about several branches of my family tree. So interesting, some very sad: children dying young and poverty that drove some ancestors to emigrate in search of a better life. I'm elated for them (and me) they found that better life. Jaap is personable, puts t/g amazing, deeply informative info. Clearly, he spends MANY hours researching to make the lives of ancestors "come alive." Dank je en Doei! Greta & Roel
