Discover Podgorica – Montenegro’s Capital, Roman and Ottoman Heritage from Bar

Pickup from Bar cruise port or an agreed meeting point. Enjoy a scenic drive toward Podgorica with a photo stop overlooking Skadar Lake National Park, famous for its birdlife, water lilies, and breathtaking landscapes. Our first major stop is Doclea, where we explore the ruins of streets, baths, and temples while hearing fascinating stories and local legends. We then continue to the historic Old Roman Bridge over the Ribnica River and the remains of Depedogen, the former Ottoman fortress. Next, we visit Stara Varoš, Podgorica’s old Ottoman quarter, including its historic mosques and the iconic Clock Tower. Free time is provided for an optional traditional lunch. On the return, we drive through Plantaže’s vast vineyards, then along the scenic Cijevna Canyon, ending with a stop at the beautiful Cijevna Waterfalls, known locally as the “Montenegrin Niagara,” usually most active until late June.

08:00 – Meet & Departure After a short welcome and briefing, we drive through scenic Crmnica toward Skadar Lake. 08:45–09:00 – Skadar Lake Photo Stop Pause for stunning views of the lake and Lesendro Fortress, perfect for photos and soaking in history. 09:30–10:00 – Old Town Walk Stroll cobbled streets of Stara Varoš, visit mosques and charming architecture while I share local legends and history. 10:00–11:00 – Free time for lunch 11:00–12:00 – Duklja Archaeological Site Explore ancient streets, temples, and ruins, uncovering Montenegro’s Roman and Illyrian past. 12:00–13:00 – Scenic Drive & Niagara Waterfalls Drive through vineyards and the Cijevna River Canyon, stopping at the waterfalls active until late June. 13:00–15:00 – Return & Wrap-Up Comfortable drive back to Bar, enjoying views, sharing photos, and reflecting on the day before farewell.
